I’m going to be doing a little travelling in May, and I need a website that gives rates for the cheaper hotels and motels. I got a good deal on airline tickets via one of the usual sites(travelocity, Expedia etc.), but they only give hotel rates for the major more expensive chains. I’m looking for really cheap digs, though. A bed and a door that locks, period.
I try pulling up the names of the cheaper chain motels (Motel 6, Comfort Inn, Super 8, Travelodge, etc.) and seeing what they where you’re going. It’s not as convenient as being able to compare on one site, but it’s a start.
Have you considered asking if there are any Dopers near where you’ll be going who have a spare couch?
Go on, take advantage of those Moderator powers!
Might try looking for hostels in the area. You may also want to look at campgrounds or national parks, etc. because they sometimes have cabins to rent for pretty cheap.
Okay, let’s say that I wanted to go to Chicago for a four-day weekend in early May. Maybe around the 9th through the 12th. How would I go about looking for ridiculously cheap fleabag motels?
I’d offer my couch, but you’re MEAN. Oh, and someone will be on it that weekend.
I know of a “hotel” a bit off the Blue Line that is terrifying, but cheap. You’d have to bring sheets, but the $4 hookers are conveniently located just outside the door. Give me a price range, and I’ll recommend if I can.
Have you checked out Quikbook.com? You can get good rates there sometimes, on hotels that are a known quantity (as opposed to Hotwire or the like).
Thanks for the link, Gundy :).
So far, I’ve got the Radisson for $54 a night. Can anyone beat that?
