Slashdot posted a link to a six legged logging machine. Check out the videos, maybe its just me but these things creep me out.

You are absolutely right that is creepy,machines should have wheels not legs.
You know what that looks like? Remember in Beauty and the Beast, where the beast sends Belle’s father home? He throws him in this scary looking carriage with legs that runs of its own accord. Random, but that’s what that reminded me of.
Reminds me of some versions of Peter Parker’s old foe, the Spider Slayer (see versions III/IV and VII).
Why are people so creeped out by this? It’s fantastic! It’s about time they came out with a practical vehicle/machine with legs. It’s been used in sci fi a lot, most notably Star Wars. And one of my favorite anime series, Patlabor, which is based on the idea that 4- and 2-legged machines become common in industrial use (construction, freight handling, etc.) and the police department decides they need some as well.
I don’t think the fact that it walks creeps me out. Its the uncanny resemblance to a grasshopper. Imagine a swarm of these things tearing through a forest like locust.
My techno-dweeb juices are pulsing with joy and delight over this one!! I’ll take mine in red once they get down the size of a Jeep.
Now all we have to do is improve the speed a little…
You’ve alos got the advantage with this machine of not tearing up the ground as much like dozers, skidders and other wheeled and tracked forest harvesting machinery.
This thing is just plain wicked cool!!

Hmmm…they need to make the legs longer.
Otherwise, how are the Ewoks going to trip them?
