I just have to say that Polycarp’s post on faith in the Bible not being contradictory to evolutionary theory on that other board are really wonderful, I am going to show them to a Creationist friend of mine so maybe she’ll stop believing God is tricking us with dinosaur bones.

In all of the time I have been here, I have never seen Tris “rant.” Frankly, I consider that to be rather insulting to Tris, who is, in my opinion, one of our most valuable posters here.
David. I agree, wasn’t meant as a slam, I don’t think Tris took it that way, since he and I discussed his post to me off line, I think we better understand each others points.
Tris, if you took my word ‘rant’ in a bad way, my apologies.
Rufus, If you want to discuss anything further PM me.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I am Not My Real Name over there.
Hey!
I can rant! You dictionary thumpin’ atheists you!
I even rebuked a guy once! Twice, even!
grumble grumble. . . don’t get no respect. . .

Ahhhhh. I was wonderin’ who that was.
Tris: I have no doubt that you can and have rebuked. But rant? Nah. Not you.
In the ancient and honorable pettifogging tradition of SD nitpicks, I believe it was three times that Tris rebuked, though I’d hate to have to go back and check. It was in the C&L thread, as I recall, when FriendofGod was doing his best pre-mellowing ARG220 imitation, and turning off people to Christianity by the dozens. And it was richly deserved, IMHO.
Holy crap! I think I know where the P-man went! Veutron’s posts trying to prove Intelligent Design seem like non-sequiturs to me.
Who was Phaedrus?

AAARRRGGGHHHH! He said the name! Now we are surely doomed!
jab: I dunno. He didn’t take two weeks telling us he’d get us the information…
Is that what his posts are supposed to be doing. . . Sorry, trying to read through his, let’s be generous and call them summaries, makes my head hurt. I haven’t checked the ‘debate’ over there since monday, and I have no regrets about leaving.
Plus he was continually calling me ‘John’. . . .
{sigh} Veutron’s just posting the Reader’s Digest condensed version of “Darwin’s Black Box”. I was just about ready to give up hope of learning anything or having an interesting debate when he came along. Now I’ve definitely given up.
I can but concur with JDeMobray and JonF on the Pizza board.
But thank you for the invitation, Polycarp, I had not come across their points of view before and it was quite interesting for a while.
I will also go for a lurk there occasionaly, but I doubt that I will post there again, as some members seem to take personal offence at whatever I post. Some of them take themselves far to seriously for me.
He was the greatest troll there ever was. He pretended to be an old man who disbelieved in natural selection and evolution. A thread started on the subject went to an unprecedented 1,000 posts (because he never posted his Earth-shattering evidence) before we killed it, putting it out of OUR misery.
He created a sock puppet (KGB) pretending to be his sister. (Or maybe it really WAS his sister, I don’t know.) pldennison said to “her,” “Bite my crank, you cum-burping gutter slut,” and the Faded One threatened to sue. He accused others of being sock puppets. He made an offer of $10,000 to anyone who could prove that two posters were not sock puppets. manhattan called him on it and there was a settlement of some sort, but the agreement stated that the details could not be divulged. Worst of all, he may have learned the SSNs of one or two of us.
The Faded One finally left us (we think, we hope) figuratively giving us all the finger in a bizarre post in the BBQ Pit that was partially written in Lakota Sioux and included his photograph. (Or maybe it was a picture of someone else. With Fadey, you never knew anything for sure, except that he was possibly psychotic.) We sighed and thanked whatever and whomever we believed in (God or Cecil Adams) that Fayedruss was gone and hoped that he would never return. So far, he hasn’t. :looking over my shoulder: But he’s still out there, somewhere.
All in all, it was one of the most bizarre episodes I’ve ever witnessed or been a part of.
Wow. I really don’t know what to say. That guy was truly wacko. jab1, thanks for the links. My apologies for bring up the subject. It’s a shame, too, cause that is a really cool nick… Oh well. I think I am done at the Pizza Parlour now.(Oh wait, parlour has evolved into parlor now! Jeez, I forgot. Darn language. Someone keeps changing it on me! )

You know, mythbuster’s posts are rather like ph’s posts…

I agree. It was fun for a little while, but then reality settled back in. I won’t go so far as to say I won’t post there again, but I’m definitely not going to pop in as much as I have in the past couple weeks. There is simply no point. MikeM is exactly as I remembered him. New trolls were created out of nowhere to say nothing and distract from any attempt at serious conversation in the evolution threads. None of them is willing to have a real discussion.
One recent example on a non-evolution subject: A guy in Focus on Family had an “emotional affair” (or something like that) with a woman who was not his wife. They immediately blamed Satan. I pointed out that they should be blaming the guy. No, no, no. Can’t have that. Must be Satan. One guy said FoF must be doing a good job for Satan to be attacking them so. (Great logic) When DrLao showed the hypocrisy of this position by noting that they only blame Satan when it’s one of their own, several of them responded to say that Satan doesn’t need to attack those who are destroying themselves already. So, in other words, if they don’t like you, you’re bad. If they do like you, you’re good, but it’s all Satan’s fault.
I’m sorry, but when it gets to be so completely illogical like that, there is nothing more I can say.
Yeah. Me too. I really felt he would see something when I demonstrated the fallacy of “irreducible complexity” when I showed him his own Panama Canal analogy was simply wrong. He brushed it off in a way that clearly showed he did not even understand his own analogy. Hard to argue with that.
Tris
One more thing I forgot to add, above.
Also in the same thread, I pointed to a review I’d done for the paper (now posted on Themestream) about the book, Close Encounters with the Religious Right. In the review, I noted the rather large number of instances of these prime examples of Christianity sinning big-time, generally through flat-out lies.
The folks at LBMB2 just ignored it. “Oh, they’re only human,” they said. Besides, if they lie, they can always repent with Jesus later.
I’m sorry, but that kind of f***ed-up attitude really pisses me off.
Well, I’ve given up on “Order Here First,” but “The News Stand” and my “Ask The Atheist” thread (which seems to be dead, at the moment) are kinda interesting.
