"Creative dog grooming" what do you think of it?

I am baffled by the urge, and think most of the dogs look pretty stupid, but as long as they’re all as careful as that woman who gets her dog checked every few months to make sure its health is not affected, I can’t really complain.

I don’t care about the dogs or owners or anything. Those designs all just deeply offend me aesthetically. What’s with all the ugly splotches of neon dye haphazardly placed, and what’s with the bizarre fetish of altering your dog to look like another animal? If you’re going to do this, do it with some class and style.

Kooky, but harmless. And some of them made me smile (lion, panda, horse).

I dislike it for a few reasons. The groomer cited in the article states “Anything that is safe for a two or three-year-old child, I can use on my dog” except, your dog does its self cleaning with its mouth and tongue. I’ll bet most products (are there products like that marketed for the toddlers, really?) used on toddlers don’t assume the kids are going to be licking and eating them off. I feel assuming people products are safe for dogs is ignorant.

Another reason I think it probably isn’t the smartest thing - stupid people who see pics, think it looks cool and decide to do it to their dog might not use safe products to dye or glue with.

Silly, but harmless, I think. (Confession: I have a tuxedo cat, and I think it’d be the bees knees to dye her white parts some color, like orange, for halloween or something. But it’s not something I’d do very often.)

I really like conurepete’s story - I can totally see doing something like this for a dog like that.

I had a tuxedo cat long ago and I used to put a bowtie on him at Halloween. He looked so snazzy

Last summer when my long haired orange cat’s fur got a bit matted in places, we had him shaved into a lion cut. He looked adorable (not at all like those freakshows you see photos of on the internet!)

That said, I would never try to sculpt my dog or cat into an elephant or a crocodile or a briefcase or some such thing

Yeah, you’d probably want the scars to heal.
