Creative Vandalism

Years ago someone unplugged a couple of letters from the In-n-out Burger sign at one of their restaurants - I am sure it was not accidental - when the sign illuminated, the “B” and the “r” did not light up. Heh-heh.

I was playing with “in-n-out uger” until I figured out you meant the last “r”.

@racer72

I’ve seen one that had written instructions:

  1. Push Button
  2. Rub hands gently under warm air stream
  3. Wipe hands on pants

We had a race team offer a contingency sponsorship that if you would run (race with) an In and Out Burger bumper sticker in this configuration you could get a coupon for a free burger (which was at Burger King, as the places where this group raced had no In and Out nearby.

Growing up, kids would cut up their bumper stickers like that for their skateboards. We also had a radio station, KOME that they would modify too.

Ran across this one last year.

Turn left … for love: Clet Abraham’s hacked street signs – in pictures

Armed with a pack of removable vinyl stickers, the French painter and sculptor prowls city streets at night looking for road signs to modify. Some local governments love him and collaborated with him for International Women’s Day signs.

I get all this except “scy.” I can’t figure out what that one is. The only word I can think of is “saucy” which doesn’t fit.

secretary

Ahh the good ol’ days of KOME 98.5 rock radio.

High school kids used to get the KOME stickers and add “You’ve got” before it, and “on your dial” after it.

It seems like just yesterday, but KOME shut down over 20 years ago here in the San Francisco area.

Secretary?

“If you’ve ever had to climb a water tower to defend your sister’s honour… (you might be a redneck)… “

It makes no sense!

All the other words have just their vowels rmvd. Secretary would be scrtry.

The signs outside of fast food joints, with the rearrangable letters, have gotten some attention. The “Now Hiring Closers” had the “C” stolen. And I don’t want to tell you what they did with “Angus Beef”.

Back in the olden days, “secretary” was often abbreviated “sec’y”. Anyone working in an office in those days would have known that.

Supposedly there is a church in England with a weird message written on the ceiling, in the shape of a circle, which remained mysterious for centuries. It sounds like a tall tale, probably is, but here it is anyway:

PRSVRYP RFCTMNV RKPTHSP RCPTSTN

It appears to be a puzzle:

A PUZZLING INSCRIPTION
The following interesting inscription is said to be found in the chancel of a small church in Wales, just over the Ten Commandments. The addition of a single letter, repeated at various intervals, renders it not only intelligible, but appropriate to the situation:
PRSVRYP RFC TMN VRKP THSPRCPTS TN
What is the missing letter?

It’s on page 15

Perhaps, but I read it actually was written above a altar “confusing the churchgoers”. The book had a picture of it. But yes, it is a puzzlement.

Oh, that’s very cool! Thanks for sharing.
