Credit Card: From Student to Normal?

I noticed today that my only credit card (Amex Blue) is still a student card, even though I have not been a student in years. Would it be possible to get it changed from a student to normal card without too much hassle? Or would I have to apply for a whole new card (which I don’t really want to do)?

I’m not unhappy with my card rates or anything, but I just wanted to know if this was possible before I tried to call them and ask. I looked around on their website with little success.

On a lesser note, does it even matter if it’s still a student card and I’m not?

These folks can answer your questions. I find them to be way above average in customer service and are very knowledgeable about AMEX cards.

I don’t know what the current procedures are.

I did, however, start out with a student card, and I currently have a Blue card. (I think I had another one in between, but I’m blanking on what it might have been.) I at no point had to reapply - I just called up and asked. This would have been… around a decade ago?

(God, I love AmEx’s customer service.)

Thanks, I did just send off a mail to them. I’m not sure why I was so hesitant to do so, like you said, they have great CS.

One thing you need to be aware of is that length of credit history is a very important part of your credit score. It isn’t a good idea just to cancel older cards and get all new ones for that reason. Changing the status of the card within the same company may be a different matter.
