I just checked my credit report, and most of it is okay except for one splotch. A few years ago I leased my car; when the lease was over, I bought the car; the car was bought in 2003. But the bank that handled the lease says that I am currently 60 days past due (under “current status” it says, “60 days past due”). How can I be currently past due when there is a 0 balance? (My father actually paid for the car, all at one time without any installments or anything.)

You should just call the credit reporting company that issued that report. In my experience, they can correct things like that over the phone. The corrected several things like that for me once and it only took a few minutes.
Yeah, and you might have to write to the credit bureau and tell 'em they’ve got an error on your report. I used to have links to the form letters they like to see but…well, that’s a long story. A letter to the CB, maybe one to the lease company and you should be good to go.
Equifax, Experian & Trans Union are the three demons you must face.
Check THIS out.
Thanks for the info!
I got my credit report from Equifax - a 3-in-1 report (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) with score report. My score is 593. Would removing the blotch, described above, help bring my score up?

A discussion board. Not as culturally refined as this place, but these folks know their stuff. With their advise I got my scores over 700 within a year of Chapter 7, car repo and a foreclosure (had a bad year).
Thank you so much, Inigo! My goal is to somehow work my credit rating to at least 700. Hope this will help!

Mention it not. Just hook me up with a cute little Uruk Princess next time I’m in Middle Earth and we’ll call it even.
