Cricket: Champions Trophy

As good and comprehensive a win as I’ve seen England pull off. SA Batsmen never turned up, and left it to a lower order partnership to build the bulk of their innings. They were a good 100 runs short of anything competitive on that wicket.

Dominating performance from England. Easy win for them. Finn has come to strengthen their team even more.
India also look like the favorites to win looking at the score card right now. So, it will likely be an England vs India final, eagerly looking forward to seeing the contest between 2 best teams of this tournament. I hope I haven’t spoken too soon because Sri Lanka may win this even now.

Two crushing wins in the semi finals for the finalists. Hopefully it’ll be a good game on Sunday and won’t be affected by the rain.

Shows what I know - I wasn’t expecting SL v India to be low-scoring and I certainly wasn’t expecting SA to fold up on what was meant to be a good batting wicket.

India’s win today may have been even more dominating than England’s yesterday. When was the last time Sri Lanka batted all 50 overs and totalled less than 200? By all accounts the pitch was looking unplayable at times - and then India come out to bat and Malinga and Co can manage very little against them. India’s only worry must be that their middle order are out of practice - they’ve barely got to bat in this tournament.

Here’s hoping that the final features a decent batting performance in the first innings, so the contest isn’t over after 25 overs.

The Indian juggernaut now looks unstoppable to me. It’ll take a hell of a performance by England to beat them.

Right. Should be a great match, weather permitting. Fingers crossed

Your knowledge may be as good as any over here. Toss, Pitch and Over head conditions played a major role in the semis. Also, England and India played very well , SA and SL - poorly.

It has been surprising for me, pleasantly surprising that India dominates an ICC event like that. My Comparison teams for the finals:
Cook < Dhawan on current form.
Bell > Rohit
Trott < Kohli better Strike rate, better fielder. Trott has better average though.
Root = Kartik Both in-form players.
Morgan > Raina in English conditions.
Butler < Dhoni
Bopara < Jadeja better bowler n fielder. Bopara better batsman.

Anderson > Kumar even though Kumar has been excellent till now.
Finn > Yadav
Broad > Ishant Broad more consistent. Also, better batsman n fielder.
Tredwell < Ashwin more experienced. Tredwell is in-form though.

So , India - 5 , England - 5. Both teams match evenly. It should be a well contested final.

England are favorites. India just 129 from 20 overs. Unexpectedly Bopara was the most effective bowler.

6 overs 59 to get for england. morgan n bopara batting. indian slightly ahead atm

2 overs 19 to win. congrats to whoever wins it. but this has been a T20 final for a 50 overs tournament. hasn’t been an enjoyable final tbh thanks to the weather.

Yes, this tournament would have been considerably improved by increasing the reserve days - for example, why not schedule the final for Saturday, with Sunday in reserve? You’d have to say the best team won, but that was a bigger choke by England than anything South Africa have managed, I think (well - almost anything :)). Shame but congratulations to India who deserved their victory. I think England are certainly better set for the Ashes than Australia, I’m a little less worried than I was a couple of months ago - but the Ashes are never a foregone conclusion, of course.

I think we will crush England in the Ashes once we work out a way to stop the actual scoring of runs the difference between winning and losing.

Maybe firing the coach would be a good way to start. :dubious:
