Crikey! Put another remake of _The Office_ on the barbie

An Australian remake coming soon.

Every episode should end with one or more major characters being bitten by one of Australia’s many venomous animals and dying in the background, and then when the next episode starts the character is alive again without any comment or acknowledgement on the prior episode.

Of course, this genre has already been seen here (2008-2011) with a perhaps even more appalling expose of organisation disfunction as Swift and Shift Couriers

I was a bit surprised to find that this is the 14th franchise remake of the Office. Chile, Germany and Saudi Arabia have already had a crack at it, so why not us.

As well as Swift and Shift, which definitely had its moments, but maybe too much time between each one, we have a superb office-based comedy in Utopia [released in other places as Dreamland], which shoots higher than the Office. Track that down. It sets a high bar for office/work-based comedies.

“The dingo killed Kenny!”

Hey, that’s Deacon from what we do in the shadows.

Agreed - though I view it more as a “political-disfunction” satire in the vein of The Thick of It or Veep.

I was surprised how much I liked that trailer. I’m in.

I’m little surprised it’s taken this long. And I wouldn’t mind seeing various versions side by side, to see the subtle differences.

That was on the air while I was working for an Australian government-funded infrastructure finance and policy project in Indonesia. It was all kinds of awesome; in fact, the head of the project set up office gatherings where we all watched it together. As Piers Morgan once said, “it’s funny because it’s true.”

I went searching for other versions last night.

Saudi Arabia

India

It took me a while to realize that this wasn’t the real Russian one

Don’t forget the Japanese version

I watched the first four episodes today. Completely unfunny. The attempts at humor are so dry that they make The Office UK look like The Office US in comparison. I don’t find a single character on the show likable, but I especially dislike Australian Dwight. (Australian Dwight is actually the receptionist in this one with Australian Pam being the salesperson who sits by Australian Jim.) Australian Creed is a woman, but still kind of favors American Creed.

Okay, I watched the second four episodes, and the series did improve some.
