Critical issue about "Back to the Future"

He tells them both later that actually, people usually call him Marty and that’s when they realize they really like that name.

As Death of Rats points out, though, not nearly as much as they loved Dave.

I’m sure Doc Brown could explain the quantum significance of Marty keeping his name despite having an older brother.

*Specifically: these elements each irritated me just a little bit:

  1. The movie opened on a filthy laboratory which had obviously been abandoned for a week.

how is this a complaint? Doc had been too busy working to go to his lab the past week. Is this a list of complaint or just commenting on the opening of the movie

Oh god. You HAVE to start a blog, dougie, you do.

This alone is gold. LOVE the detail about the father who recommended it dying.

memo to self: Do not discuss movies with Dougie.

hah. i thought i had mastered the art of the incoherent diatribe but now i see that i have yet to begin to learn. TEACH me.

I only wish he’d mentioned Uncle “Jailbird” Joey. The family baking him a cake clearly means that they condone lawless behavior.

Otherwise known as the Heinlein Foundation.

From the old thread. It seems like people there didn’t notice this tidbit either.

dougie, when I suggested you start a blog I was sincere. However, I did so because I think your writing is unintentionally funny. However, now that I know more about your situation I feel bad. I wish you the best, and admire the principles you have that drive you to object so sternly to any form of violence.

Professional courtesy?

Well, on one hand we have a cold-blooded, viscious, surprisingly clever, seemingly unstoppable killing machine while on the other hand we have a dinosaur with big claws…

I would just like to say that this post wins the SDMB post of the day award.

Because I said so.

Well, I have to admit that is not the critical issue I was expecting.

Dude, just watch the movie once time to see how off base you are. I love the movie, but even if you don’t, it’s not horrible or offensive.

I love all 3 movies, just watched them again, a couple of days ago.

Anyone who doesn’t like 'em can…

…fucko off?
Can I say that?

I hate manurer.

Has dougie ever suggested what movies he does enjoy? That might be revealing.

The 2000 thread makes clear that he has big problems with movies in general. He likes the Three Stooges and a lot of cartoons, I think. It seems to me he has difficulty with entertainment for adults.

Now I want to start my own movie review blog, and just start ragging on any little detail:

[QUOTE=my eventual movie blog]

"But what pushed me over the edge was when The Younger Mr. Lebowski (No, I am not going to call him “The Dude”. One should never refer to people by their nicknames until invited to do so) entered a vehicle with a beverage.

Now, aside from the dangers of a casual use of recreational alcohol, this particular drink was a White Russian. I googled it, and it is made with half and half. A milk product. The protagonist is shown slopping the drink all over the pavement… as well as the interior of the car. Now, if that is not cleaned within 24 hours (and you can bet Mr. Lebowski is not responsible enough to even think of this), it will smell of sour milk.

I don’t see how anyone with vigilant values can condone this behavior, and I shudder to think of how many of today’s young people, who obviously look up to this character as a role model, will embrace this lax approach to alcohol and dairy products."

“When I watched the movie Casino, I was shocked - shocked! - to discover it had gambling in it.”

See, though, when normal people try to write bizarre reactions to movies it doesn’t work. You genuinely need to be angry at the filmmaker for endangering the life of a stuntman for doing a skateboard pulled by a car scene.

…make like a tree, and get out of here?
