Here is my nifty new photo blog. I’m just curious about which ones people like.
If you can’t get enough, here are my pictures from Guatemala and Honduras.
Thanks!

Home of Eternity 2 is my favorite.
Also really dig the first of the Domestic Scenes (the video gaming pic).
Goatface is a great photo, but better than the actual photography is the simple fact that it is titled “Goatface”.
My favorite for subject matter is Home of Eternity 2. You could improve it by making it darker - the whites look washed out and the blacks look gray. You might also want to selectively darken the upper right corner - this spot of light tends to pull the eye away from the subject.
The Ghost is in There is an interesting picture. I think it could be improved by cropping out the bushes at the bottom of the frame. Either that, or you could Photoshop them away.
I like the Domestic Scenes with the birdcage. It would be interesting to try taking this shot at different angles and different focal lengths, with the birdcage at different spots in the frame relative to the telephone pole. For example, would it be possible to have the cage near the left of the frame and the pole about where it is now? You might also want to think about the rooftops at the bottom of the frame - could the picture be improved by including more (or less) of the houses? You might also want to punch up the contrast on this photo.
Brilliant observation of pattern on the closely-cropped shots of windows, fairground lights, chairs etc. I really, really like them.
Composition on a few of the more recognisable shots is a bit iffy; for example, it’s a tiny bit annoying that the tip of the pyramid is snipped off - cropping much closer, or pulling back a bit to get it all in would (IMO) have been better. It’s also not abundantly clear why it’s slightly off-centre; again, either conspicuously off-centre (like Big head), or perfectly centred (like Yet another ruined church) would have worked better, for me anyway.
Overall though, you do have a talent for composition and observation; keep it up.
You asked….
Looking at the frames from Guatemala: Seems you got the feeling right but your use of light, shadow and expression confuse me. It really is not clear what you are trying to communicate/portray. Are you trying to show me what life is like there, or are you trying to show me what YOU think life is like there? As for the other shots? Same use of lighting and shadow, a bit too dramatic with your use of the sunset, sort of blows the whole frame away from your idea, which is unclear. In the end? A very depressing/moody group of photos. And at the same time LOTS of potential. Your blocking seems clear, the composition is (mostly) obvious, but how you treat the subject is either way too filtered through your own vision of the way things are, or a reflection of the way you want other people to believe things are. I wonder what would happen if you turned your camera over to the subjects of your shots? I also am not clear on what message you were trying to send. I was here and this is what I saw? Or I was here and this is reality. It clearly communicates how YOU felt about it, but all it does is put me into your shoes. It does not put me into the world you filmed.
In the end my crit. would be. (best is 10 –btw)
Composition: 8
Ambient: 9
Reality: 4
Photographer not being objective: 2
As they sit they are nice compositions, no magazine would buy them though, but they are nice just the same. Far, far above simple snap shots, some serious thought went into them. While I see LOTS of potential here, you have a lot of work to do if you want any professionals to consider the work you do, (at this point), seriously.
And I DO not know if that is what you were after. But from a professional standpoint, I would not give up – you have a GREAT eye, just work on it! I would love to see your work in about 5 years!
Well… You asked….
