It’s been a while since I posted here, but I remember what a great resource this site is for intelligent opinions, unlike elsewhere on the internet.
And now with the current economy, I could use any additional advantage for finding a job. I’m actually looking for my final coop, or internship, and here’s my resume so far, with a cover letter. I’m looking for something that will lead to full-time employment in the tech sector.

Thank you!
With just a tiny bit of shuffling (tighten up the spacing between bullet-pointed items, for instance) you could get it all on one page. I’m not opposed to a two page resume, when it’s warranted, but it’s weird to have just a couple bullet points hanging in space like that.
This looks good to me, though admittedly it’s not my field. Minor suggestions:
I’d put “strong communication skills” last in the list, and the technological skills higher, only because I assume that matches the employer’s perspective.
Under Education, I would put “Major in Computer Engineering, Minor in French Studies. BASc expected April 2010.”
It looks pretty good, but I do have some suggestions. Best of luck to you in your job search. My experience is from a US perspective, so in that sense your mileage/ kilometrage may vary.
Yes, strongly recommend reducing to 1 page. My guideline is to keep resumes to 1page until you have a Master’s degree and/or 10 years of experience.
As part of the space saving, I would get rid of the horizontal rules. They will create potential issues for your resume if it’s run through a scanner.
In the core skills I would probably lead with the technical skills and if possible include more specifics that might be keywords, such as types of hardware, issue tracking software or processes, etc.
GE - “created new type testing” is that grammatical?
In the Tyco description, can you quantify how much you reduced the server-side load? Whenever possible, quantify (better yet, monetize) the benefit from your work.
In the OHS job, what does “solely responsible for a collection of Perl scripts” mean? Does it mean you wrote them independently? How many?
Convergys job - did you receive any awards or promotions recognizing you for excellent customer service? Were you highly ranked on customer satisfaction or other metrics?
Typo - “created an fast” should be “created a fast”
Cover letter - it would be great if you could flesh out that sentence about how your background matches their ideal applicant with specific examples. Show them rather than tell them. “My experience doing blah matches the blah qualifications you are seeking.”
Thanks for all the great advice. I managed to reduce it to one page and made most of the suggested modifications. It feels much tighter and professional than before, and it’s light years ahead of the version I had from my last job search.
I can’t believe I even got any interviews with my last resume. Hopefully the new version is competitive in this market.
