critiquing the movie critics

lovely example of refined savagery. “No-No-Manohla” ha!

I don’t see much “critiquing”–just calling assorted people “grossly ignorant”, “ignorant hipsters”, “institutional dispensers of middle class platitudes” who don’t happen to agree that the film is brilliant. No argument re: the opposing viewpoints, just name-calling.

The fact that he thinks Vertigo is Hitchcock’s masterpiece is telling enough, then he adds that Wong Kar-Wai and Hou Hsiao-Hsien are overrated bores. Yawn. Pretentious, pseudo-intellectual rebel-chic. Like an NYU student wearing a black turtleneck and ranting about the establishment.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the “adulated” films Polar Express and I Heart Huckabees got 57% and 61% positive reviews respectively while the supposedly excoriated Enduring Love drew 55% approval.

If he can’t even get the critics reactions right, why should I trust his opinions on those films?
