Crock Pot rice substitution

I’m ready to start Crock Pot cooking. Every recipe including rice calls for converted rice. Can I use regular instead? Will I need to vary the cooking time? There are conflicting opinions all over the place from “of course,” to “no way, you stupid idiot and stay out of the kitchen!” What’s the deal?

FYI, this page seems to give good info about substituting regular rice.

I’m not a crock pot cooker, but I’m GUESSING that the reason converted rice is called for is that it will retain some integrity in that long, slow cooking process with lots of liquid. Regular rice will probably turn to mush.
