Crossword clue of the day

Clue: Prepare to decant the Thunderbird

Answer:

Unscrew

I amuse myself. That’s what really matters, right?

How many letters?

Seven.

7? Siphons?

OK, I peeked. I don’t get it.

Thunderbird is a cheap wine in a similiar vein to Mad Dog 20/20 or Boone’s Farm. It isn’t a cork or even a plastic plug at the top, but a threaded top more like a soda bottle. Does that help GorillaMan? BHTW I got it immediatly twickster, and I’m not sure if I should be pleased or ashamed that I got so quick.

I checked too, IMHO the ‘The’ in the clue makes it confusing.

Replacing bum wine with a soft drink, the clue would read: ‘Prepare to decant the coke’. Had it simply read ‘Prepare to decant Thunderbird’ - I @ least can lie to myself and say, “I woulda gotten it had that ‘the’ not been there”.

OK, I don’t need to feel so stupid now. I lacked the required localised knowledge

You need the “the” – parallel construction to “Prepare to decant the port,” or somesuch. It refers to the opening of a specifc bottle.

OK - here’s IMO the Best. Clue. Ever.:

O hark the herald angels sing the boy’s descent which lifted up the world

While shepherds watched their flocks by night, all seated on the ground

BWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!!!

I don’t get this in the least.

I suspect you’re british, for two reasons.

  1. I have no fuckin’ idea what your crossword clue is all about or why it’s answer is half a paragraph.

  2. I have a British friend who is a Norwich supporter who the other Brits I know call “tractor boy”.

“I am one of six to eight”

Anne Bolyne

“America’s Biggest Tower”

AAA, the American Automobile Association

It took up half the grid when completed (it was a Christmas Eve extra-large special). I’m giving no clues about solving it, though :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless they’re doing it to wind him up, they’re wrong

Oh, and another good one:

Gegs (9, 4)

Scrambled eggs

Not A to G, not P to Z.

Water

They probably were doing it to wind him up.

I still have no idea about your crossword clue. I have no concept of their design or the form of the clues. Our answers are typically trivia and thesaurus-type words. Yours seem to be word games, and the structure of the clue sometimes hints at the words underneath.

I have enough word puzzles to work on without figuring it out though.

Funniest. Site. Ever.I wish I could remember where I found it.

It would help if I weren’t having a blonde moment and screwed up the coding.
