I had an idea for a message board game just now…don’t know if it’s going to be any good, but here goes.
The object is to figure out what common phrase, slogan, title, name, activity, etc., the puzzler is trying to obscure. Each phrase/title/whatever has to be described in crossword fashion.
JJ1) (IN Expansively)(Yen) and the (Phila. Univ.) of (Demonic Shooter)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
And, BTW, if you say “Phila. Univ.,” you’re indicating that the name is shortened, which it isn’t in this case.
I think your best bet is to lock me out of this thread…

twickster:
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
I know, that one was ridiculously easy.
Sorry I killed your game – I actually think it’s a good one. Came up with a couple to throw out there:
[Andrew Jackson’s number] [shower figures] for [Pitt flick] [Charlie and Emilio, e.g.]
[Gawain et al.] in [film in a Kieslowski trilogy] [joined a jam session]
[Oater greeting] I [Hoving’s employer, for short] [possessive pronoun] [before ship or land]
[It’s nothing to Venus] [draft] [PIN part] [upcoming Rob Marshall film]
1. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers;
2. Nights in White Satin; and
4. Love Potion Number Nine
were easy enough, but who or what is a “Hoving”?
If I told you that, you’d know the answer.
I had to look up Hoving. Sorry.
I’ll be back after I concoct a suitably obnoxious new challenge.
twickster:
[Oater greeting] I [Hoving’s employer, for short] [possessive pronoun] [before ship or land]
How does before ship or land = mother?
Mother ship, motherland.
What, you would have preferred a Norman Bates reference?
Mothership and motherland.
OK, here’s mine:
The [Newman-Neal downer][Hoover, for one] [internet anonymizer]
twickster:
Oooh, nice one!
You didn’t get it already, did you?
twickster:
Oh ye of little faith!
I was hoping to make you work at it a little harder.
OK, c’mon. Where’s your next one?!
Oh puh-leeze. I used to do this shit for a living!
I’m at work – might have one later, might not be till tonight.
Us1) [Pester] [Wedgwood, say] and the [knowledge lover]'s [imperial measure]
Us2) A [abdominal pain] in [magazine] [succeeds as a goalie] [Oz’s top network]
Really? Did you write crosswords? I had no idea. I appear to be overmatched even more than I thought. Yet, I will persevere! At least for a while.

Think I’ve got this one:
A stitch in time saves nine.
Guess I should think up some also. Just gotta remember all of Twickster ’s past tips on creating puzzle clues.
OOooh… Oooh… I got it!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
I’m not feeling inspired enough to create one of my own just yet… but once I’ve finished my morning coffee I’ll give it a go.
