Cruises and smoking in staterooms

Something just happened that has my spirit somewhat crushed. Last week, I had the idea that an Alaskan Cruise would be great. I spent a week doing research and I had narrowed it down to Norwegian cruise lines’ ship the Norwegian Sun. It all looked perfect. And I was about ready to buy tickets, and called the cruise line’s toll-free number to ask a couple questions the websites and reviews didn’t answer. With one sentence, she dashed my hopes.

“None of our staterooms are nonsmoking.”

For those of you who might remember the wife with severe allergies whose in-laws were trying to kill her every Christmas, that’s me. It’s not a matter of the “smell” of smoke. I’ve gotten allergic reactions from places that smell just fine. I’m not sure what causes allergies, but I usually have to assure people that my nonsmoking isn’t a scent preference but a breathing one.

So, I do more research, and NO cruise lines have nonsmoking staterooms, except for Carnival Paradise, which doesn’t go to Alaska and I don’t want to go to the Caribbean. :mad:

My question(s):

Has anyone here been on a cruise at all who has the same allergy or a sensitivity to cigarette smoke? If so, how bad was it?
