Very confused. None of the people looked like who you say they do, other than assumingly Creme and Godley (whoever they are). Are they supposed to be the people or did they just use someoene’s eyes here or mustache there or something?
You might know Kevin Godley and Lol Creme’s work, you just don’t know their names. They started out as the band 10cc (biggest hit “I’m Not In Love”), and over the years while making music of their own, they directed a bunch of famous videos, including “Don’t Give Up” by Peter Gabriel with Kate Bush (where they’re hugging each other with the sun going down, eclipsing and coming up in the background), “Every Breath You Take” (the one with all the candles) by Police, Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit,” and Duran Duran’s “Girls On Film.”
YouTube has The History Mix which was a celebration of 25 years of making music and videos, and unless you’re way young or way old, you’ll probably recognize bits and pieces. It’s in 2 parts:
There’s a bigger version of “Cry” on YouTube. It was one of, if not the, first uses of “morphing” which makes it historically interesting, but I think it’s also a good song.
I question that list of names. I don’t know that there’s anyone “famous” there except Godley, Creme and Mr. T. The rest, I believe, are just folks picked out for their interesting faces. I especially doubt Vin Diesel, Moby (both seem to have been way too young when this video was made) and Rick Moranis (the guy in “Cry” is way too young to be Rick). Unless there’s a list somewhere that says these people are actually in it, I don’t think so.
I don’t think Enola Straight was saying that these are the people in the video – just looking for more “who to these people resemble” submissions.
Funny thing is, I haven’t seen the video since it was in heavy rotation on MTV, yet I can picture the faces ES is talking about in a good number of those shots.
They also directed “Girls On Film” by Duran Duran.
I remember this video. I’m on dialup, so I’m not gonna sit for an hour waiting for the video to load, but I remember thinking one of the people looked like Steve Perry of Journey. Did anybody else notice a Perry look-alike?
Ah ok, I get it know. I can see it too. There’s one guy who looks like Freddie Mercury. I know it’s not, but I always think of him when I see the video, so I understand the concept.
The guy used repeatedly looks uncannily like Adrien Brody. Other than that, one old man bears a passing resemblance to what an elderly Dustin Hoffman might.
Unless my aging memory fails me, the people in the video are (in boring reality) a mixture of friends/family/people-hanging-round-the-studio and some models from an agency that specialised in people with faces that were more “interesting” than conventionally beautiful.
That is Trevor “Buggles” Horn near the end, though.
No way, it’s either “I’m Not In Love” or “The Things We Do For Love.” They had a few hits as a duo, the aforementioned “Cry” and “Wedding Bells,” to name two.
Oh, they did the iconic “Every Breath You Take” video as well. Creative bastards.
