Romanticism?

Having read more about cryptic puzzles I think my clue is lacking some key elements. Thinking up good clues, it seems, can be just as challenging as solving them.

If I may amend my previous clue, I offer this:

We won by a field goal. Sweet! (11)

ETA: Didn’t see “Romanticism” until after my post. That’s not it.

I got nothing. Anyone else?

The overlap is tic.

How about:

Sweet! The game is afoot (11)

Ticktacktoe?

Bingo! That’s it.

Typically, cryptics have the synonym at the beginning or end of the clue. Plus, if all or part of the solution is a homonym, the clue should have an indicator like “sounds like” or something similar.

For “ticktacktoe,” use something like “Game sounds like candy appendage.” “Game” is the synonym for “Ticktacktoe,” “sounds like candy” is a homonym for “Tic Tac,” and “appendage” means “toe.”

It took me years to get the hang of cryptics. Some clues can be insidious. They use the standard indicators that turn out to be the words that are changed, not the ones that change the words.

My Lord! Most of some urine splashed all over! (8)

Paul’s epistle to Philemon in the New Testament (The “amen” was a clue to that) concerns Philemon’s slave Onesimus who is being returned to him.

Element found in unstable little boy? (7)

Shouldn’t the first letter(s) of the new solution overlap with the last letter(s) of the previous solution?

I’m cryptically challenged as is and need all the help I can get!

That’s right. The previous answer was PhileMON and this was MONsieur, so they overlap.
