CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation ostensibly takes place in and around Las Vegas. I watch it very infrequently, but in some of the episodes I have scene there are scenes shot in wooded locations.

Now, all of the times I’ve been to Las Vegas, I’ve stayed in the city. Driving there took me through a couple-hundred miles of desert. Flying was by Cessna, so altitudes were 9,500 or 10,500 feet (or lower). You can see a long way from a little airplane, and all I saw was desert. The mountains are pretty barren, too.

I know that the show is filmed in California. But if it’s supposed to take place in Las Vegas, where are these wooded areas supposed to be?

The CSI characters (as opposed to the Vegas cops) actually work for Clark County, not the city itself. Clark County has some wooded areas, notably a piece of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

In some episodes, though, they travel to other parts of Nevada so Clark’s geography isn’t a limiting factor.
