I’ve never read any of the Lovecraft books, but something about Family Circus characters spouting off quotes referencing Cthulu cracks me up.
I don’t get it. Last time I looked, every daily Family Circus strip is like this, disconcerting quips from freakish dolls who seem to be aware of a reality larger than their own.
Oh, wait a second. ::Takes off his Sureality Sunglasses::
WHOA!
It’s just a “Cute Family Sitcom” strip, and the link you post is simply how I always imagined it.
Suitably surreal.
I was hoping Cthulu Circus was a real comic strip. I loathe Family Circus. Out of context captions doesn’t make it any more tolerable. I need to see the ancient one seriously freaking on that family. Or maybe just a strip documenting the funny hijinks of the demon. That would be cool.
How appropriate, since the Family Circus always drives me to an insane desire to tear my own eyeballs out. May they all be devoured by Unnameable Horrors.
Thanks for the laughs.
This is as good a time as any to announce that the Most Sublime and Abhominable Achievement of Western Civilization, the venerable Dysfunctional Family Circus, following two untimely deaths, has once again risen from its soggy grave! For the backstory on the DFC, see these threads:
That was pretty darned surreal…I like it!
(Does Lovecraft just throw random words together? What the hell would a “horn-flasked disc” look like, anyway?)
Okay, I about died laughing at this one. I so need to have that on a coffee cup or something.
Now all we need is a Sunday panel with Little Billy’s footprints leading away from an open copy of the Necronomicon, tracing crazed non-Euclidean angles all over the neighborhood before ending abruptly in the middle of an open field.
I think you misread “horn-flanked.”
Yeah, that definitely makes more sense.

What was weird was seeing an entire Cartoon Network cartoon episode devoted to Cthulu and his plans for destroying the world. It was on that show with the Grim Reaper and Billy and Mandy, or something to that effect. It seems to come on at random moments when I switch past CN, and happens to be pretty good just about every time. The Cthulu reference just drove me nuts. When I saw it, I saw all these octopus like monsters, so I thought to myself “wow that cartoonist knows of Cthulu!”, and then they actually mentioned him, and it turned out the episode was about him. It was pretty cool, for CN.
