I’m so pleased “Bedazzled” has already been mentioned. Definitely a cult film that deserves the full DVD treatment. I’m holding off on prejudging the remake with Hurley/Fraser. Fraser was great in “Gods & Monsters” another deserving cult film. Do once popular movies that are now considered cringe-worthy count? How about “Tron”?
I forgot about Repo Man that’s a great one.
I also want to suggest A Boy and His Dog with Don Johnson in a post-apolyctic tale. very entertaining.
Don Johnson was entertaining?
Yes he was. In fact the fact that Don Johnson was entertaing was…entertaining.
So I was entertained by the entertainment provided by Don Johnson. Sue me.
Here’s a couple of similar past threads:
A lot of the suggestions overlap between the threads, and I think a good number would qualify as “cult”-type movies as well.
Harold and Maude
Robin Hood:Men in Tights
Any Monty Python movie
Dead Poet’s Society
I know they probably don’t fit into “cult movie” definition, but they are great favorites among my friends and most of the people we talk to don’t really know them that well “probably cuz most of them are older”
Oh yes, we can’t forget
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off-It’s a teen cult classic, What can I say?
Hmmm, from the description given earlier in the thread, I’d have to say that A Clockwork Orange is one of my favourites.
Some others that I have fun watching (though not fitting into the definition) that haven’t been mentioned: The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movies, and the Rabid Grannies movies.
One more vote for “ReAnimator”.
Barbara Crampton nude certainly didn’t hurt.
Frankenhooker. The best part of the movie is when an exploding hooker’s leg ricochets around the room, and the action is filmed from the leg’s P.O.V. Now that’s cinema.
I actually saw it in the theatre when it came out.
Debbie Does Dallas. Everyone just had to see this when it came out. Even Siskel & Ebert reviewed it. As porn goes it was only so-so.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. I’m stunned at how manny adults I’ve met who are still mesmerized by this film. It’s also one of my all time favorites!
I loved “Dead Alive,” made by an Australian, Pete Jackson. Lots of guts and stuff flowing freely – and there’s the martial arts-loving priest who, when faced with a gang of zombies, announces, “I kick ass for the LORD!”
Crimewave Made by Sam Raimi and The Coens.
Worth checking out for the curiosity value.
Static Beautiful sad movie.
**Blood Simple ** The Coens first, a classic.
Buckaroo Banzai Why not.
What about “The Wicker Man”?
And, if you’re talking about movies that don’t have the cults they deserve:
"Parents"
Freud’s Primal Scene, but with meat. Well, flesh. Well, meat actually.
And I second “Liquid Sky” and “The Reflecting Skin”. And “Harold and Maude”. And…well, etc.
Oh, and “Pi”. Bound to become a cult movie.
I just saw the trailer for “Bedazzled” (at a screening of “The Cell” meaning my evening was completely wasted).
I’m not holding off prejudging it. I’m going to start hating it now.
Oh! Wait!
“Time Square”
“Smithereens”
“Ladies and Gentleman the Fabulous Stains”
Pulp Fiction
Bruce Lee
Evil Dead movies
“Bloodbath at the house of Death”(a real crackup)
Shaft movies
Billy Jack movies
Umm…I know there’s more.
-Sam
The Wickerman!!! Definitely!!!
Vanishing point is really good.
Has anyone seen Pi?
Yes, Pi is an awsome movie. The director is currently working on his second feature and I can’t wait.
The Shaft movies were just mentioned. That reminds me, I’m a big fan of the Dolemite movies with Rudy Ray Moore. They’re a lot of fun. I own the first one, and some of his other movies.
While I’m at it, I just remembered another great cult classic. UHF is hilarious; one of my favourite comedies. I own it as well, so it didn’t immediately come to mind as a cult classic.
Oh yeah. ** Little Shop of Horrors. **
The remake, of course. A fine fine movie.
I’m a little unclear as to what constitutes a cult movie but…
Down by Law with Tom Waits and Roberto Begnini (probably misspelled) was terrific. “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream…”
My Life As a Dog (the subtitled, not the dubbed) actually made me cry once. No mean feat.
Pipeliner, Down by Law is one of my favorite movies. No one has ever heard of it when I recommend it.
Does Stop Making Sense - the Talking Heads concert film.
I think I saw Dead Alive, was that the one with the lawn mower? Has anyone seen Hotel Hell?
