“It’s a sad and lonely world.”
I used to know her body-double. That was a great film. Too bad it’s not out on DVD.
There are a ton of great cult movies out there. My favourites so far are Zombie! vs. Mardi Gras, A Bucket of Blood, Down By Law and The Forbidden Zone.
But there are many worthy flicks in this thread!
Snoo[insert correct number of "oo"s here]py: Peter Jackson is actually from New Zealand. But yes, he’s a great filmmaker; oldscratch mentioned Meet the Feebles, which is one of the most twisted films I’ve ever seen, and yes, Dead Alive is the one with the lawn mower.
silent_rob: Darren Aronofsky, director of Pi, has actually completed his second film, Requiem for a Dream, and is currently fighting with the MPAA over the rating. They gave it an NC-17 because of some disturbing sexual material (it’s about addiction to hard-core drugs); Aronofsky and the distributor, Artisan (who brought us Pi, as well as The Blair Witch Project and Soderbergh’s The Limey) are appealing the rating, requesting an R. Release is scheduled for early October; if the MPAA refuses to reconsider the NC-17, Requiem for a Dream will be released unrated, a la Todd Solondz’s Happiness.
This movie news update brought to you by, um, me!
I got to see him perform at the Justice League with the Phantom Surfers. It was great. He’s still hilarious. I also have two of his early records.
Another good cult film that no one has mentioned is Time Bandits.
Dark Star
On Any Sunday I & II (Motorcycle racing documentaries. First one has an un-publicized appearance by Steve McQueen.)
Wadda mean the remake of course? The ORIGINAL! Sure there’s no music but it’s directed by Roger Corman, and Jack Nicholson plays the masochist. Who needs music?
The Wicker Man - one of my top ten movies of all time. Damn, I’d love to see a fully restored copy. I’ve seen all the existing pieces but you can’t find them all in the same cut.
Frankenhooker - I’ve shown that to so many people who resisted it at first, then laughed their asses off at it.
Deadly Advice - Not sure whether it has reached cult status yet. It is very hard to find in the US. Great black comedy starring Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, etc, about a repressed young woman with an overbearing mother who starts getting advice from famous (dead) murderers like Jack the Ripper and Dr. Crippen.
Two unsung cult movies I quite like are Reefer Madness (Play the piano…faster…faster!) and They Saved Hitler’s Brain.
MST3K should have had a go at ...Hitler's Brain, but we can't be greedy.
Thanks Cervaise. I have since picked up the new Independent Filmmaker for this month, and it has a great article/interview with him. I’ll definitely have to check it out. Speaking of Happiness, would that be considered cult? It’s not my favourite, but I really liked it.

Shoot, I missed this the first time. I should have posted it with my other post. Oh well.
I am very jealous, oldscratch. I have some of his stand-up stuff, including Rudy Ray Moore is Rude. It contains a lot of his stand-up routines from over the years, in kind of a best-of type thing. Though it’s one whole performance.
This also reminds me of another great Rudy Ray cult classic: Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil’s Son In Law. A great cult classic. Hilarious!
Her body double?? For this film?
In a couple of scenes where she appears nude (as a matter of fact, in both of them that I rememmber), you can see her face. They may have used a body double for closeups or some other scenes, but a couple are definitely her.
Her body double?? For this film?
Yes. Obviously for the non-face stuff. IIRC, the “head shot” (you know what I’m talking about) was my she. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, and it’s out of print, so I can’t check it out. (Not that I’ve seen my old friend’s wife naked IRL, for comparison purposes.)
That reminds me of another one. Has anyone seen Shaolin Dolemite? Rudy ray More in China in a kung fu movie. The best of two great worlds.
No one’s going to vote for Dust Devil? That’s a reallllly freaky film.
