Can anyone recommend some good books on cults. I would be especially be in interested in books that include personal stories.
20 years ago, when I taught Cults in America, I used this as a text.
I’m sure there’s plenty of good stuff more recent than that.
Due you want scholarly reseach on fringe religions, or tabloid “true crime” books about crazy cult killings? Can’t help you with the former, but Helter Skelter is a pretty good example of the latter on the Manson cult.
I do not want tabloid true crime. I would interested in scholarly books, but what I really want is either a first person accounts of time spent in cults or a fairly serious third person account of time spent in cults.
You might find Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer interesting.
