Culver's Custard?

They just opened up a Culver’s Custard location here in Springfield, IL. After two visits, I must say that their burgers are (^$@#^%&%@ yummy, but that’s beside the point.

What concerns me is that, unlike Braum’s® and White Castle®, those places being fast food stops that don’t yet exist in Springfield, I had never heard of Culver’s prior to the opening of the new location at Somethingerother North Dirksen Parkway.

So what’s the deal with this place? Where is the highest concentration of Culver’s locations in the country (ie, the Northwest, the East, etc.)?

And, while we’re on it, why the hell can’t we get a White Castle®, a midwestern chain, fer cryin’ out loud, in Springfield?

Because, apparently, someone in this town has good taste and wouldn’t let one of those disgusting little things within the city limits?

Culver’s IS a midwestern chain. They’re like the midwest version of In’N’Out Burger.

The highest concentration of Culver’s is definitely in Wisconsin. They started here, and there’s something like 100 Culveres’es in this state.

The location of all the Culver’s in the country: http://www.culvers.com/locator.htm

You’ve got a CULVER’S in your hometown, and you’re worried about there not being a @^&*!! WHITE CASTLE?!?!?! Christ. Whatever’s in the water in Springfield, I sure as hell hope it stays in Springfield!

Yeah. We had a Culvers open in Kalamazoo, MI last year. They have pretty good food and the service is pretty good. I’d recommend them over McD’s or BK lounge any day.

And their Custard; Very VERY good ice cream. It melts in your mouth.

Yep. Definitely a Wisconsin chain. We moved out of Milwaukee about 5 years ago and into Culver’s country. I pass 3 of them on the way to work.

I’ll agree that their better than McD’s, but if you’ve ever tasted Kopp’s custard or burgers in Milwaukee, you’ll realize that Culver’s is a pale imitation. More expensive, smaller portions, and lacking a certain subtlety in the custard department. Where Culver’s seems to dump ingredients into their standard base flavors, Kopp’s will do Flavors like Rootbeer float, or Rum and Coke, or my personal all-time favorite, Champagne Mimosa (available only on New Year’s Eve).

Can you tell we take dairy products seriously in Wisconsin?

I haven’t had frozen custard in over 20 years!!!

I LOVE FROZEN CUSTARD!!

But, nobody in Tennessee seems to have ever heard of it. :frowning:

Does anybody know where a Tennessean in the Nashville area can get a frozen custard???

<puppy eyes>Please???</puppy eyes>

We got a pair of Culver’s here in Austin about 3 or 4 years ago, out of the blue. Curious, we wandered in one day, and it instantly seemed midwestern to me, but I have no idea why. However, I’ve been won over by cheese curds ([Homer]mmm…Cheese Curds…[/Homer]) and the Butter Burgers are good (I prefer the swiss melt myself). But the custard definitely kicks the most butt. Especially when they have a good custard du jour. My favorites: Blueberry Crunch and Double Oreo…

Switchboard.com doesn’t have a separate listing for frozen custard so I tried ice cream parlors instead. This might be what you’re after:

White Mountain Creamery
4004 Hillsboro Rd
Nashville, TN

A search for “frozen custard” at yellowpages.com returned this:

Frozen Fun Company Dippin Dots
205 Shady Grove Dr. Nashville, TN. 37214

I’m pretty sure those “Dippin’ Dots” are those freeze-dried astronautey ice cream things they sell out of those weird vending machines in movie theaters. But I could be wrong.

Sorry. None of the places mentioned has frozen custard. Only <ugh> :stuck_out_tongue: frozen yogert. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Fuck off, DynoSaur. And I mean that in the NICEST possible way.

As seriously as a Vicadin addiction! :stuck_out_tongue:

But honestly, I went to Culvers in Madison and EVERYTHING was good! Good fries, good chicken fingers…and what can I say, frozen custard is like frozen tongue kisses. Pure joy.

When I lived in Rochester, New York I would get f.c. at Abbott’s, vanilla with rainbow sprinkles. By god, I want one right now. YOWZA.

Take I-40 Eastbound to the Donelson Pike exit. From there, get on a plane to St. Louis, and then head for Ted Drewe’s, 3000-something Chippewa. You’ll thank me  .

<frigid tone of voice>I’m already at the Airport. Thanks just loads ** rastahomie** </frigid tone of voice>
Remind me to slip a Horned Toad into your athletic supporter, will you?

If anybody asks about the H.T., you can just tell them it’s a merkin.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, rasta, but I gotta go with Dyno on this one. Those fucking sliders are one of the most repellant “foodstuffs” ever slung out at unsuspecting consumers. Little pucks of congealed assgravy, I’m telling you.

You probably won’t be gettinag a Braums anytime soon.

Braums owns it’s own dairy farms and they make their own ice cream and dairy products. All the stores are within one days drive from the dairy.
God I need a black and white sundae and I am totally jonesing for a chicken fried steak sandwich.

Umm…they’re building one 2 blocks from my house, should be open in a few weeks, in addition there are at least 3 others in my city.

I may be going to visit my parents in Myrtle Beach over Thanksgiving, and I know Tennessee is on the way…

Kind of you to offer, but my Spider Sense tells me that the custard wouldn’t be in good shape after the first hour or 2.
But the spirit & intent is good. Thanks.

I actually wrote to White Castle corporate some time ago, asking the same question - and got a frigid, terse response to the effect of " we have no plans to expand outside of our cuurent market at any time in the foreseeable future". Nice, huh? So it’s Edwardsville vs. Joliet afa the closest White Castle for us Springfieldians.
