Over the weekend, what with Sunday being 9/11 and all, there were a number of 9/11 themed documentaries, especially on the Discovery Channel and similar. Unfortunately, none really showed what was going on right now at Ground Zero.
I know there’s a new plan for the building that will eventually replace the Twin Towers, and I believe WTC 7 is under construction, but I’m curious to see what’s actually going on there and what time lines (if any) exist on future construction.
I work across the street from Ground Zero and I am blessed with a panoramic view of it from te 33rd floor. In the past year, there has been very little activity whatsoever. There are always construction workers milling around and performing renovations to the buildings on Vesey street, but other than occasional demolition, the WTC site is very quiet.
They finally got approval to demolish the Deutsche Bank building across the street. The PATH rail station is operational. Repairs to 7 WTC are proceeding, seeming quickly. It looks like they are shoring up what will be the new foundations for whatever design will be built on that spot.
Maeglin, next time I’m in my home office (2 WFC), I’ll wave to you up on 33. You’ll have to look down, though. I’m on 15. Probably won’t be back until spring. Hopefully no walking down the howling wind canyon of Vesey on bitter Feb mornings this year.
