Curt Schilling is still an asshole

The missionary position?

Looks perfectly fine to me. Maybe you need a content blocker.

Pete Rose is still not in the Hall of Fame for fucks’ sake. I’d say after Rose.

I’ll admit, I don’t see any of that stuff either on that page. Looks like a normal web site. Of course, I have an ad blocker, because it’s ridiculous not to have one.

I have an adblocker, too, and I keep it updated and yet it was all flashing sidebar for me. Well, whatever.

Well, some did, anyway. I think that that generally faded as time went on, when the DH became more common in lower levels of baseball, meaning that pitchers got even less experience at hitting before reaching the majors. And, even those who were reasonably good at bunting were still largely “automatic outs,” though they were able to move runners along using sacrifices.

And, yes, the NL instituted the DH in 2022, so MLB pitchers don’t hit at all, unless the team actively chooses to let their pitcher hit (and that’s pretty much just Shohei Ohtani).

Wow. About the OP, I hadn’t heard.

I’m a Christian, and I’m on my church’s prayer chain. Prayers shared with the prayer chain are kept private to only those of us on it, and what’s more, we only share concerns and pray for them if and only if the person with the concern wants it shared. If they don’t, we don’t.

Yes we believe in the power of prayer, but Jeez Louise, we respect peoples’ privacy.

That that was pretty fucked up Curt Schilling. Fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

I just have to use this moment to share Bartolo Colon hitting his first - and only - career home run.

Not all ad blockers are trustworthy. Some are even owned by ad companies. If yours isn’t blocking all those pop-ups on mediaite.com, consider switching to uBlock Origin.

They’re not married to each other, so probably anal?

It’s funny this would come up now, because just about a week ago (prior to this), a MAGA-relative of mine was going on about how [paraphrasing]:

I hate the media for how they’ve destroyed Curt Schilling. They said he was a Nazi who collected Third Reich paraphernalia, but actually he’s a WW2 buff who has lots of stuff and the Nazi stuff is just part of his larger collection

I did what I usually do: “Mmm-hmm. Hey, are you going to mom’s thing next week?”

But this now piques my interest. Anyone know what he was on about?

There are a lot of people who collect WWII stuff as well as a sub-set that really do collect Nazi stuff. Here’s a gift article from the NYT about it:

I don’t know whether Schilling is a WWII collector or a Nazi collector. Personally, I find the Nazi stuff incredibly creepy.

Are you sure they weren’t conflating him with Clarence Thomas’ benefactor, Harlan Crow?

Presumably there is more than one person who collects Nazi shit. I can’t see who they’d be conflating a former athlete with Thomas’s buddy.

Pete’s pretty reprehensible as well (and that’s not limited to his infamous gambling decisions)…

Perhaps, because, of all the reprehensible shit that has been ascribed to Curt Schilling, collecting Nazi memorabilia isn’t one of them.

Harlan Crow, however, has recently been in the news, and is known to collect Nazi memorabilia, and has explained it as being part of a larger interest in historical collections.

ETA: ok, a little research and I stand corrected.

Curt Schilling is an asshole with a Nazi collection. I shouldn’t have expected anything else.

Anal is likely the closest you’ll ever get to a horrible stinking POS like Curt Schilling.

( But thank goodness for soap and hot water in any event )

So, like Ty Cobb?

I’m not saying that Ty Cobb was a saint, but the general perception that he was a terrible human being (i.e., a racist, a cheat, and possibly a murderer) appears to be the result of stories which were fabricated by authors and biographers, particularly Al Stump, after Cobb’s death in 1961; those stories led to his portrayal as an asshole in Ken Burns’ Baseball documentary, and the 1994 film starring Tommy Lee Jones, and cemented that perception in the minds of many.

I will check those out, I knew him from Ken Burns.

Well, RIP Tim Wakefield (I’m sure someone will start a proper thread, just wanted to mark it here as well). One of my favorite Sox players, and one of the nicest.
