This just in: Curt Schilling is a moron!

This guy just can’t help it, every time he opens his mouth , ignorance comes out. Arguing against evolution?

Schilling is a vile, despicable man and a hypocrite.

  1. He ruined his video game company and lost 50 million. However ,he also screwed over 300 people’s jobs in the process. Naturally , this tea party dipshit took a 75 million dollar loan guarantee from the state of Rhode Island rather than raise money himself. Then he blamed the governor for his company’s failure.

  2. His cancer was caused by chewing tobacco. This moron continued to chew tobacco, fully aware of all the risks.

The good thing is we can laugh at him, we can laugh at his cancer, his chemo, and all the money he’s lost.

The bad thing is, it looks like he’s campaigning for a job at Fox News. I’m sure he will be happy to join in with the climate change deniers with his next display of scientific ignorance.

How dare someone have a different opinion on things than you right?

He’s clearly so stupid he deserves to get cancer and die a premature death, leaving his family and friends in mourning over the loss of a loved one.

He has an opinion that he believes in, tried to have a business that failed, and used tax loopholes effectively…he clearly deserves a life of misery and death

I hated Schilling when he was a player. (Yeah, I’m a Yankees fan, why do you ask?)

SINCE he retired, I’ve learned enough about him to learn to respect him more- not for anything he’s said about politics (I’ve never heard him speak about politics), but for what he’s said and written about his son’s Asperger’s-related problems.

He’s a flawed human being like the rest of us, but I like him more than I once did.

Everybody has known he was a moron since 9-11 and he had to be front and center to shoot his mouth off about that. And from what I understand, he is the worst possible parent for a child who, like me, is growing up with Aspergers.

You have no idea what kind of husband or Dad he is.

You’re free to condemn whatever public statements he makes, but analyzing a man you don’t know as a family man is out of line.

Ignorance isn’t an “opinion.”

I’ll give him a pass on the tobacco because it’s addictive and addictions are hard to kick, which is why we call them “addictions.”

Somebody else brought that up, not me. If he doesn’t want people to comment on what kind of dad he is, he can stop shooting his mouth off publicly abour raising his child, too.

This is somebody else’s thread about the guy being a moron, and I’m assuming viewpoints from both sides are tolerated, not just the side approved by a self-appointed guardian…

“Ignorance”, as you put it, is absolutely an opinion.

He can get on TV and say that evolution didn’t happen, aliens exist, Bigfoot is living in his guest house, the Jews cost Al Gore the Election, and the Holocaust didn’t happen, and regardless of his statements’ ability to be proven…it’s still his opinion. And given that it’s just an opinion it is neither right nor wrong, just different from yours

Did he say “in my opinion, evolution isn’t real, in my opinion Big foot is living my guest house”?

If he states them as ‘facts’ even ‘facts as he sees them’ his is wrong and incorrect.

Opinions can’t be wrong? Fine then he has to state that it is his opinion that (blank).

Wow! After reading the thread title, I thought this was a zombie thread from 1993…errr… 1998 or 2001 or 2004…2005? …err maybe 2007 or 2010…nevermind.

Evolution or whether the Holocaust happened is in no way a matter of opinion. Things that can be proven can not be opinion.

This is idiotic.

There seems to be a significant number of people who believe that, as long as something is defined as an opinion, there is no way of evaluating its merits and its accuracy. They even argue, as you seem to be doing here, that it is inappropriate even to attempt any assessment of someone’s opinion.

I’ve seen this among a few of my university students. They will write a history paper, using a set of sources provided for them, and when they get a mediocre grade for straight up getting things wrong, or for completely missing some of the most significant issues, or for analysis that completely misses the main point of the documents, they will complain that they only wrote their opinion, and that they therefore should not be penalized.

This is not to say that there’s only ever one way to arrive at an answer. People can, to be sure, have genuine and reasonable differences over how some types of evidence should be interpreted, and it is also possible to disagree over the relative significance assigned to different aspects of an issue, but the debate still needs to be within the bounds of reason and logic.

It’s one thing to argue, for example, about whether it was militarily necessary for the United States to drop the atomic bombs on Japan at the end of World War II, but it’s another thing altogether to argue that the bombs were never dropped at all, and that the pictures of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were faked. That’s not an opinion; it’s willful ignorance. I can’t stop you from thinking like that, but rational people can decide that you’re not worth even talking to on the matter.

Chocolate tastes better than vanilla. That’s an opinion that needs no rational or logical support. It’s merely a subjective preference.

Abortion is immoral and should be illegal. Abortion is a woman’s right and must be legally protected. Those are also opinions that, for the most part, are expressions of personal principle and probably not, for most people, amenable to logical refutation.

“Evolution didn’t happen” is not in the same category. It’s like saying “Gravity doesn’t exist.” People who argue that the latter is just an opinion, no better or worse than any other, should step off a cliff to prove their point.

You *really do *hate him.

Well, to be fair, Schilling has never been accused of sexual assault.

If that were to happen, the OP would be the first to start a thread defending him calling his accuser a whore.

Nope. Unfortunately, the guy never shut his mouth.

That was an outstanding post, mhendo, and I couldn’t agree more.

He is a fucking hypocrite. He’s a low tax tea pariter which is fine until he, a multimillionaire, funds his failure of a company through tax payer money instead of funding it entirely with his own goddamn money or venture capital. So he wants to lower his taxes as much as possible because taxes are evil and people shouldn’t get handouts but then takes his own handout equivalent in size to SNAP benefit for millions of people.

Gah. Beat me to it. < shakes fist >

Actually I’m with **RickJay **that I will point and laugh at his ignorance and at his business incompetence, but an addiction and cancer are no joke.

And except for the one about the mere existence(*) of aliens, it would be an opinion that is unworthy of respect (the opinion, not the person, that’s another half hour). That something’s an opinion means it’s protected by freedom of speech from penal or civil-liability consequences, but not from derision.

(*as opposed to cavity-probing or pyramid-building activities; then it’s mockworthy)
mhendo has expressed it well. Saying “it’s an opinion” provides no legitimacy or immunity.

As a lifelong Sox fan I’ll always love him for the bloody sock, but these days he’s just a walking freakshow, plain and simple. Anyone who defends him for his “opinions” is just as much of a hopeless idiot as he is.

mhendo - well stated and couldn’t agree with you more on both counts!
