Cybertrucks falling apart

I saw something new today.

A CT carrying a load of construction materials. Sorta.

Tonneau was closed. There were 3 transverse raised racks over the downsloping aft half of the truck. Like you might see two of on the roof of an SUV to tie down a kayak or skis or … . They looked like a factory option or a quality 3rd party part, not homebrew.

Anyhow, carefully strapped to there was a bundle of six ~8’ x 1" lengths of EMT conduit. A heavy massive load for sure, worthy of the rugged reality of a mighty CT. [/sarcasm].

They turned off into a condo complex. Where DIY is prohibited by law, so it was probably a real contractor, not a DIY weekend warrior.

There once was a truck with an ugly frame
Its angles sharp, and it looked so lame
The people wondered who’s to blame
The man who goes to Mars

All hail the Cybertruck
A brick on wheels, it frankly sucks
They call it slick, but let’s be real
It’s the dumbest thing on wheels

You have described a white Honda Pacific Coast!

Were there seashells on it?

What are the seashells for?

I don’t know if it was custom or not, but I saw one in powder blue in Palm Springs in February (at the luxury outlet mall).

Demolition Man reference. In the movie, that’s what the people of the future use instead of toilet paper.

You were supposed to say “He doesn’t know about the sea shells!” [snicker]

When I lob them over the plate, people are supposed to hit them.

They’re all originally plain stainless steel; AIUI that’s the only way they come from the factory or the dealership.

Any other color or finish is probably a wrap, not paint. And so by definition is custom, or at least aftermarket. White, black, gray, iridescent orange, you name it. All aftermarket.

I’m 99% certain that the white Cybertruck I saw had a wrap. It certainly looked like that’s what it was.

Here’s a photo of an iridescent one that almost makes it not look like trash.

Modern wraps are amazing. There are definitely some snappy choices in color, sheen, pattern, iridescence, etc. out there to be had. For whatever shape of vehicle.

As to CTs specifically …

Wrapping is so easy and efficient now, whereas prepping and painting SS and doing the required disassembly first is so arduous that IMO damn near nobody would pay to aftermarket paint a CT.

As to looks, pretty much anything is an improvement over the basic Lowes refrigerator SS. I get the look they were going for, but it’s just soo not 2025. Once we get to a full bore Mad Max dystopia in, say, 2035, I think the scuffed perpetually dirty plain SS look will return to fashion.

But if Max & his cohorts thought finding gasoline in a wasteland was hard, finding wires with electricity still in them is gonna be even harder by then. So the CTs will be little more than immobile oddly shaped tents by then.

I beg to differ! The Cybertruck will be considered a heavenly bit of salvage! Lots of wide strips of stainless to be converted into body armor, light armor plating for more flexible vehicles, and possibly even basic melee weapons given some shaping and grinding! A veritable treasure trove! They will be stripped of their “exoskeleton” and -then- left to rot as a worthless excuse of a vehicle far to heavy to convert into some more commonly available source of power (animals, meeeeethane, etc.).

Eh, you could charge one with solar panels, even if (for any reasonable panel area) it’d take far longer to charge than the driving time you’d get. Could still be useful if you only need occasional excursions.

You’re missing the whole post apocalyptic Cybertruck ecosystem. Charge it from solar and wind when available. The big battery supplies power to run lights, water pumps, and other things. You can live in one of those tents that covers the bed, with a bit of heating or AC, as needed.

When the raiders start getting too close, you can pack up your solar panels and windmill, and drive to someplace new.

Zap 'em with the anti-vehicle laser you stole off a dead HMMWV. Go big or go home.

How much time to store enough charge from a couple kilowatts of panels to fire off one of the railguns the navy is developing?

:egg: (aaaccckkk!)
