It was really a very good film - great characters, well-written, and does not take the easy road. This could easily have been some horrible comedy, or maudlin drama - but instead, you really get to know these people and are interested in seeing how it ends.
Don’t know if you need to dash to see it in a movie theater, but keep it in mind when it comes out on DVD or on your local cable channel.
Cyrus is a nice film and I think you will like it a lot.
I mostly agree with you right up until the “interested in seeing how it ends” part. A very well made and well acted movie telling a story that afterward I could give a flying fig about.
I sort of liked it but I really have a problem with manipulative crazy people, so for a lot of the movie I was quietly grinding my teeth at Marisa Tomei’s inability to see how truly fucked up her son was.
I thought it was good, but I thought the trailers made it seem more like a comedy than anything. I enjoyed it, but I expected a comedy, not a shaky-camera semi-serious movie. Marissa Tomei was great; I love Katherine Keener too.
Jonah Hill’s mobid obesity was really distracting to me. I don’t know how why someone so wealthy wouldn’t get gastric bypass or a boot-camp personal trainer or something. There’s really no reason.
I liked the movie, but I’m not sure why. I thought the ending was rather abrupt, but I guess the performances were good enough that I enjoyed the ride.
I left the theatre wondering whether the script was based on a true story, and if so, which character corresponds to the screenwriter.
