D.C. Votes in Favor of Statehood

From DC’s point of view they all succeed though, because no one gets more federal money than DC. All representation would do is just give them a few more advocates who wanted even MORE money for the district.

It’s all academic anyway. No way it’s going to happen with a Republican-controlled Congress.

Is more money the end of the story? I don’t think that every voter is a pure economy voter. I think some, at least, give a crap about how DC is run, and where that money actually goes.

If nothing else, we can apply your argument elsewhere, too. Where gets the second-most federal money? How far down the list are we going before we get to someplace with no democratic representation? Is it just the number one slot?

Congress doesn’t have the power to admit DC as a state anyway. You need a constitutional amendment.

It does?

A large portion of the DC metro area is in Virginia.

From wikipedia:

That’s not DC. Washington DC is completely separate from Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia.

The DC metro area is not a city. You might as well say that Chicago is located in Indiana and Wisconsin.

The legal entity is separate. The actual real-world city is not. Cities are made of people, not municipal governments.
