Daily Podcast suggestions

Wondering if anyone can recommend daily podcast to try out during my 45 minute commute.

Currently I listen to Marketplace, but that’s only about 25 minutes long. I also listen to Tech New Today now and then, but don’t enjoy it enough for daily listening.

I used to listen to the Adam Carolla Show, but that has gone to hell over the past few months so I gave up on it.

I also used to listen to Buzz Out Loud, but that, too went to hell.

For weekly podcasts, I listen to: Comedy Death-Ray, Doug Loves Movies, The Nerdist, The Skeptics Guide to the Universe and WTF with Marc Maron.

I have also tried some of the Kevin Smith podcasts, but I can’t really seem to get into them.

So what are you guys listening to?

I like Stuff You Missed in History Class.

I like that, too, but I’m hoping for a daily show (or close to it).

Try the Greg Fitzsimmons podcast. It occupies a space somewhere between Adam Carolla and WTF. Think it’s weekly.

It’s not daily but I’m a fan of the BS report on ESPN. It’s sports related but also has a bunch of pop culture stuff.

It’s weekly, but there are years’ worth:
Savage Love Podcast

Other podcasts that I like, though they are not daily:

The Moth
Freakonomics
Escape Pod (if you like science fiction stories)
NPR: Car Talk

J.

Decoder Ring Theatre
The Bugle
Dan Carlin
Hijinks Ensue
The Pritzker Military Library

There aren’t many daily podcasts that I really like so I load up with weekly podcasts (or less frequent) and never don’t have something to listen to, and I usually spend an hour or two a day listening to podcasts.

I *strongly *suggest:

The Moth (true stories told live without notes. Always awesome)

Radiolab - maybe my favorite thing ever. It’s exactly what I want from a radio show. Good stories told well. Like This American Life but better

This American Life - I like stories. You might be noticing that theme.

Planet Money Podcast - Even if you think you aren’t interested in Economics, give this a shot. It’s so much more interesting than the premise makes it sound.

Stuff You Should Know - From How Stuff Works - just a great great show explaining the universe and everything in it one topic at a time. Funny too.

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History - Not daily, not even weekly, but every 60 days or so Dan puts out a show that is about 2 hours long and fascinating. He is talking about the fall of the Roman Republic right now. He had done about 10 hours on the subject so far and it’s all great. (he also does a semi monthly political show that is not bad, but I don’t listen anymore. Not that it isn’t still interesting, but I just don’t have time)

Up and In -The Baseball Prospectus Podcast. You have to like baseball a little bit, but if you are even the most casual of fans this is worth listening to. 55% baseball 45% other general bullshit. Comes out once a week and is about 2 hours or more each time.

Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me - NPR Comedy Quiz Show

The Bugle - Comedy News. Frequently hilarious, usually informative, sometimes just silly.

I round that out with some other sports specific stuff, but those are the best of the bunch I think.

It isn’t a podcast, but a podcast edition of his daily 2-hour radio show, but once I got into the groove of it I’ve come to quite enjoy Tony Kornheiser’s show. Sports but most of the time only about half of each days show is about sports.

I go back and forth on Adam Carolla. Listening to him every day really does reveal how much you’ll repeat yourself when you talk for 90 minutes a day. And I don’t find it hilarious but do enjoy it when he gets a good rhythm going with an interview. I do miss the 1 on 1 shows that were all he did for the first year. But I listen to him on the commute when I’m reading anyway so it is good to have something I don’t have to concentrate on to follow.

Not daily, but if you like Marketplace I’d recommend the Planet Money podcast, which is twice a week.

Slate also has a daily podcast where each weekday is a different crew. The three main ones are a sports podcast (Tuesdays), pop culture (Wednesday), and politics (Fridays). I mostly enjoy those (though the pop culture one is iffiest).

Excuse me while I bump this thread - Hello!

I’m looking for reccomendations too. Currently my list looks like

BBC Material World
Freakonomics
BBC Business Daily
BBC Discovery
BBC From our own correspondent
BBC Science in Action
So… yeah. Anyone else with good podcast lists?

since I listen to it every day I’m curious - what do you mean? Do you not like Alison?

The radio station I listen to went tits up, so so I started listening to the Kevin and Bean to get a 24-hour-old look at current events. You might like that. We seem to listen to the same stuff…
