Clinton looked good; last time I saw pictures of him (I think shortly after he’d had surgery…?) he looked terrible, but he looked pretty good here. I really miss that man.
Good interview, good show, except the interpreter part.
Clinton has always had pretty good comic timing.
Do you think he was serious about Chelsea thinking highly of the TDS?
I could easily see that being true.
Jim
I think it’s true. She’s about the right age demographic (26 or 27, right?).
What was that that started off the show? Something about Robert Novak?
They showed a clip of Novak on C-SPAN calling Stewart “self-righteous” with “airs of grandeur.” Stewart’s tirade in return was jaw-dropping. I kept waiting for him to stop, but he just kept plodding along. I think he just straight up called him pure evil at one point.
And called him that after admitting that he’s never watched the show and has no intention of ever watching it. Novak shockingly speaking from a position of total ignorance.
Considering what they’ve called Novak before, is that really a big deal? The “Douchebag of Liberty” joke went on for several episodes.
And how does this differ from his usual behavior?
Your sarcasmeter may be out of order.
I thought it was definitely interesting they’d run a segment on kicking gays out of the military considering their guest!
Did you notice how Clinton took control of the interview. When Stewart started to make a joke, Clinton talked right over him. He stayed on message. A true professional. And smart - I loved his seat of heat answer.
Just watched it last night - jeez, could the contrast between Clinton and Bush be any more different, in terms of personal style and how he (Clinton) carries himself?
The comments on Novak were funny because, well, they were funny - but also because Stewart wasn’t backing down, in a serious way. When he ended his bit with “…because I sincerely think you are a terrible person” it was obvious he was saying how he really felt.
I think that while the main reason people like Stewart - if they do, unlike, say, Novak - it is because the show is funny in a smart way. But a big part of his appeal is that his humor is rooted in truth and the anger folks feel about politics, or in this case, a Douchebag of Liberty…
I switched the channel from the Daily Show rerun of Clinton and saw a clip of Bush talking at the UN.
And then I shot myself.
When Stewart said “feel the love”, he meant it, didn’t he? I’d vote for him again in a heartbeat.
I liked that Clinton stayed positive and didn’t rag on the Administration. Might have been because of his close working relationship with Bush I, but I think it’s just because (despite the BJ and what followed), the guy has class and great intelligence.
His answer about Hillary running for president was good too.
I watched that (UN address) while we were both home for lunch. I turned to my husband and we said (at about the same time) “Clinton could have totally sold that.”
I miss having the charisma actually ooze from my TV.
I loved watching Clinton clap like a trained seal when Jon asked him how to defeat his wife in politics.
I enjoyed it as well. Clinton seems so comfortable with himself and the way he comes across. W just seems peevish and petulant. and immature and narcissistic and shallow and–oh, sorry, got carried away.
TDS just gets better and better.
