Daily Show 1/17

Oh my gosh. “Where’s the taint?” I have not laughed that hard at something in a reallllllllly long time.

And the map of DC? That was a thing of beauty!

Happy

It was perfection!

Agreed. That was the funniest thing I’ve seen on TDS for a while.

Pretty juvenile, but I have to say I was on the floor.

The rest of the show? Meh. I think they shot their wad on the taint.

Biggest laugh: “I don’t want to belabour this, but…”

I also liked the bit about Steve Carrel’s Golden Globe. Both the opinion on awards shows, and the anecdote about Steve’s parting words: “Later, douchebag.” (He had the best acceptance speech of the night. Class.)

The interview was good, too – although Jon came across as a bit of a jerk more than once.

Goddamn, I think Bremer is related to Lazarus Long. Sixty-four?

Agreed.

I thought it was great all around - one of the best in a while that I have been able to see.

the Taint - love the bit on its own, but the quote that led it off from that Senator - beyond scary. And the D.C. graphic was priceless.

the slam on the Dems - worth doing and effective

Bremer - was Jon pushing it? Perhaps. I think he probably did because Bremer was obviously very fast on his feet and could take it - and he is an articulate speaker and clearly trying to spin support for what has happened in Iraq. To my mind, Stewart used this as an opportunity to ask someone who appeared to be smart, honest and representing a certain viewpoint some tough questions - I suspect Stewart wouldn’t ask Cheney or Rummy similar questions because there would be no point - he wouldn’t get a direct or useful answer…

All in all, that was chock full of TDS goodness…

I didn’t… quite… get the “taint” joke.

I understand that in some way the whole sequence involved an extended reference to a man’s private parts.

But that in itself is not as funny as everyone seems to think the “taint” jokes were.

So I conclude I’m missing something.

Please fill me in.

So, these gov guys are being called on the carpet and one of them says the taint on him is not as high as that on the others (a dubious achievement anyway).

As far as the other meaning of “taint”: 'Taint the balls and ‘taint the asshole, it’s the area in between.* Absolutely the juvenile spin on the term the Senator used, but it goes on from there in high style. Everything was a pun on that area vs. DC, vs. these folks’ behavior.
*aka the “gooch” on Jackass.

A “taint” is the piece of skin between the scrotum and anus. It’aint your balls and it’aint your asshole.

I thought the Bremer interview was interesting, though not very funny. Jon challenged him, but also gave him a chance to answer. Of course no one’s going to get very far in a six minute interview. I like Jon as an interviewer, even if he does sometimes hide behind the “Hey, I’m just making a joke” defence from time to time.

For all those who think he only goes after R’s he attacked the D’s pretty hard last night.

Yep, I have to admit it. He smashed the Democrats pretty hard last night.

They smashed themselves; TDS just ran with it.

I’s just wants me some Choc-late!

Honestly. How did this guy get elected?

I like how “going Pat Robertson” is now synonymous with going crazy and saying something ridiculous.

But “taint” is so much funnier!

Don’t mind me, I’m just coming up with some writing samples for my application to the Department of Redundancy Bureau.

:smack:

First time I heard about that kind of taint was on Deadwood, when Al Swearengen had kidney stones. I thought it was some obscure reference the writers dug up out of a pioneer diary or something.

So it’s a fairly common term? You guys all knew what it was?
