…not to annoy me. Bringing back Ed Helms was a Very Good Thing. I hope he will continue to do cameos. I like John Oliver quite a lot. The rest are a big meh. Would like to see more of Ten F#c$ing Years, though.
John Oliver… he’s the English one right? Don’t care for him too much myself but I do want to see more Samantha Bee. She’s a riot.
Helms returning is good.
John Oliver is my favorite correspondent already.
I could use a little more Lewis Black. We get very little now that he is busy making a lot of crappy movies.
The rest, I agree, are meh.
Jim
Rob looks like he played football in college is meh to me.
I LOVE John Oliver. and the black guy they have on sometimes to 'splain racial issues–I can’t recall his name.
and I like the balding guy more than I did before. Also like John Hodgeman(?), And Samantha, of course.
Jason Jones could go, though-don’t like him at all.
I don’t think TDS is trying harder–I think it’s still up to par. I liked the Seat of Heat, but I am enjoying 10 f***ing years as well.
Jason Jones is often too far over-the-top, but he can be really damn funny sometimes. The piece he did several months ago about being a new dad was one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TDS.
I guess I’m the only one who actually likes Demetri Martin…
I really liked Dmitri Martin in the one time I saw him, during the Ohio Midterm Midtacular. Rob Riggle and Dan Bakkedahl, I could do without. Sam Bee and Jason Jones are both hit-or-miss, but when they’re good, they’re hilarious. John Oliver is easily the best thing to happen to the Daily Show since Rob Corddry.
Oddly enough, the recurring guests on the Colbert Report, which are pretty much its closest analogue to the Daily Show’s correspondents, have been almost uniformly fantastic. P.K. Winsome and Russ Lieber are two of the funniest characters either show has produced.
Well, I think he’s been pretty good for a fill-in who stayed on. He was just going to be Samantha Bee’s replacement 'cause he knocked her up, but once she had the kid he stayed.
I want more John Hodgman. He’s hilarious.
The bit a while back about net neutrality where they invoked his “I’m a PC” commercials was great.
I miss Colbert. He’s ok on his own, but not watchable often in that long format. Like Laurel and Hardy movies, one is good but a marathon brings boredom.
The only two correspondents I think are funny and have any talent are Rob Riggle and Samantha Bee… The British guy drives me crazy - every time he talks with John you can see him reading his cue cards…
Lewis Black is great, but haven’t seen him in a million years… and totally agree about Colbert… Like him, but his show is WAY too long for him to carry…
They all read cue cards, including Stewart, but some are better at it than others. When Colbert introduced the loathesome “P.K. Winsome” character (Tim Meadows), I thought ‘if this guy is going to be a regular weekly thing, then my Colbert days are numbered.’ At the risk of being repetitious, Meadows is not now, nor has he ever been, funny. At best, he had a couple of mildly amusing moments on SNL. Happily, he’s rarely seen on the show.
not the only one.
Not to nitpick, but they actually read off a prompter. I don’t like Meadows or his character, but his “If I Did It” thing was funny.
To be completely anal, it’s a teleprompter, or even more anal, a TelePrompTer (insert trademark thingy).
I was going to post something specifically to comment on John Oliver’s discussion of some show where they had Sting…and his f***ing lute. It was hilarious.
It’s definitely a teleprompter, but is TelePrompTer still around? I have no idea.
Me neither; I was just being a smartass. You all have to admit that even if he can be seen reading the teleprompter, it’s not annoying like SNL guest star annoying, many of whom can’t be bothered to learn even the simplest lines.
