Just saw the reports of tornados roaming through the city. Looks pretty intense.
Holy Crap, they just showed video of a Tornado near Joshua, Texas and it showed a 40" shipping container being thrown at least 200’ into the air.
Any dopers in the Joshua area? (about 20 miles south of Fort Worth)
All us cubefarmers trooped into the office stairwell when the sirens started going off. I’d say better than 3/4 of them (including me :D) had their phones out, either checking the weather radars or playing Angry Birds or whatever to pass the time.
Sirens went silent about ten minutes ago. Hope that’s all the fun for today.
Man, I hope all my little seedlings are OK. Even if we didn’t get any hail right over Casa De Shoe, rain that heavy can break or drown the little guys. Oh, and in other gardening news, a wood-chipper place near my home is giving away free mulch - I don’t know how much longer!! - and I was planning on going after work today to get some litterbucketfulls.
Merged two threads and expanded the thread title.
I was gonna go out shopping today, but I changed my mind. I stayed at home, with a lit candle in case of power outage (even a small candle can show me around the house enough to find the flashlight).
…do I work with you, shoe?
We all piled down into the semi-basement corridors that serve the server farms here, and everyone was playing with their phones. No obvious damage here, but I haven’t been outside or home yet to look. I don’t think anything happened in my neighborhood but rain.
I’ve been watching this creeping down on us for several days, figuring that the longer it took to get here, the harder it was likely to hit.
Is this a reference to something else, or is there a reason you opted to spend the day tending an open flame, rather than just get the flashlight out and ready preemptively?
love
yams!!
Two reasons…votive candles are cheaper than batteries, and I’m a damned pyromaniac. I’ll use ANY excuse to light a fire, any fire, anywhere.
those storms were something else. the size of hail they are showing on the weather channel, along with the video of the tractor trailers flying… just incredible. what a wild spring.
i hope our texas folks are safe and sound.
It was pretty uneventful in North Dallas even though crazy stuff was happening all around here. One tornado started out south of me and ended up east of me. Another was to the southwest in Arlington. They mentioned another to the north in Addison but apparently it didn’t amount to much. There was massive hail to the west and northwest from Irving to Coppell. It was definitely interesting.
I use my cellphone, it’s safer and it fits in my pockets.
I hope y’all in Texas are ok.
Get yourself a couple of these babies - they switch on when the power goes out, so you can find them in a hurry. I got three of them, one for each level of the house, but ones I bought are a lot smaller than this model.
Yeah, but that… that’s … but candles are homey and old-fashioned! Lynn, for heaven’s sake, tell 'em to get offa your storm litter-strewn lawn! (Did you lose power? We didn’t. :D)
(I opened this thread first thing to check in and see who else had posted. Hope nobody’s work/home/vehicle/body got flattened.)
Lancaster, Texas, which was particularly hard hit is my home town. I keep hoping fr some first person reporting but I’ve struck out so far.
Texnadoes?? Oh global warming, you rogue.
The lights didn’t even flicker. Yesterday was trash pickup day, and our bins didn’t even get knocked over.
And I don’t wear clothes inside the house, just a pair of panties, so no pockets. Besides, I’ll take any excuse to light a fire.
I’m good.
I slept right through all of it! (I work nights) Am I a heavy sleeper or what?
