Just north of where I-20 and I-45 intersect, on the west shoulder of northbound I-45, there is a very large, steep hill. I drive by this hill every other Friday evening and occasionally on other days too. More often than not there is one or more cars parked in front of it and the occupants of these vehicles are either climbing up or down the hill or are standing at the top. The grass on the hill has a very heavily worn path all the way up it, so I figure people must walk up there fairly often.
My question is: what is up there? Are these people just exercising? Is there something at the top that is worth me checking out the next time I drive by? Maybe it is just a great view of the city. My first thought was that people were just using it for exercise, that is what it looked like the first few times I drove by. Now I see families walking up and down it together. Someone please fill me in.
I don’t know off the top of my head, but I think that this question was answered on the Glen Mitchell show during one of his ‘Everything you wanted to know’ Friday shows. Glen Mitchell is a broadcaster on KERA, the local NPR station 90.1 FM. His webpage may be able to point you to the answer, or you could call in the next Friday he does the EYWTK show.
I am glad to see I was not the only curious one. I will try to send Glen Mitchell an email.
I hope somebody answers this, because it’s bugged me, too. At first I assumed people were using it for exercise, but somehow that doesn’t make sense.
The power of the internet has caused you to ignore the most obvious way to find out - Just climb it and see.
Could this possibly be in the area where JFK was asassinated?
Not even close - distance wise, I mean. The book depository and grassy knoll are downtown and easily recognizable.
I have thought about climbing it. It is an hour away from where I live and I only pass it on my way to and from Houston. I don’t want to waste much time on those trips. Also, this is one heck of a hill.
Just a correction, the hill is actually on the east side of I-45.
