Yep. It wasn’t a very pleasant thread. I have to admit I was being a bit abrasive, but not, IMHO, undeservedly so.
Since I am responding, I might as well throw my $.02 in on the OP, violence is a proper response to violence. I am not a violent person, but I would fight until I could fight no more to defend my friends and family if I had to. I think most people feel that way.
But, that’s the point, Rhum. Some of us think violence in response to violence is okay and some folks think it’s not. I guess some folks consider principle more important than practice.
Hope I got that right.
BTW, who told you that? What thread? Don’t worry, I’m not going there. But I’m wondering if it’s who and where I think.

Shit, I intended to also say that I understand the principle over practice thing, I would just say that is a true minority viewpoint, and is probably unhealthy and unnatural. I think Monty’s twisted, meagre soul can only derive pleasure from using the anonymity of the Internet to insult other posters, usually without provocation or justification, because the vicious little chickenshit knows damn good and well he would lose his teeth if he tried this rudeness in real life. I suspect he lacks the guts to say anything to anybody in real life. (And, Rhum Runner, lest you make the same accusation of me, I do my best to keep my on-line personality true to my real-life personality. Yes, I probably am an asshole.)

Holy shit, Ferrous, you and i seem to have started this whole meltdown with our little exchange over the content of the other thread!
If anyone knows of another SDMB thread that contains more vitriol on a single page, i’d love to hear about it.
I should also add that i was one of those who criticized the OP for not getting the facts straight, and that i think meros demonstrated considerable class in his apology.

mhendo: You didn’t start that melt-down at all. It’s all, 100%, the fault of The Peyote Coyote that he’s melting down. It started with him conflating comments between two threads. My point, as apparently everyone else in the thread has managed to notice, is that this particular thread has to do with “justification for violence.” As the comments were made in this thread, I felt it quite reasonable to note what I did about justification. The Peyote Coyote seems to me to be the SDMB version of a kerosene cat.
