Why would dental records be needed for identification if she was only missing a few days?
Frostbite can do a number on a person’s face.
I’m so sorry for your loss, enipla.
I’m so very sorry, enipla. I saw the front page of the Post today and gasped, and immediately thought of you.
um… don’t read if you’re squeamish. Enipla, I suggest you just skip over the spoiler box.
Local scavenging animals will take advantage of a free lunch. The results are not pretty, and may make visual identification impossible. Another possible reason might be murder/suicide by gun, which can also screw up your face something awful, but may leave enough teeth for dental records to be useful. As mentioned, freezing can really mess up one’s face, too.
Enipla, I’m very sorry at how things turned out. My sympathies to all.
My sympathies to you & her loved ones, enipla.
Thanks for info and the spoiler box, Broomstick. It didn’t occur to me that it may be disrespectful to ask the question here. My apologies to enipla.
Sorry for your loss, enipla.
That’s OK. I used to work search and rescue. I understand such things.
Anyway, autopsy is scheduled for today. We should know more tomorrow.
Thanks for the update. I’ve been hoping there were more details available. If she was indeed murdered, I hope they find and prosecute the killer soon. Gah.
Any further update on this story?
I am very sorry for your loss, enipla. Words often fail us at these times, but I just want to say that we all should have caring friends such as yourself.

Bumping this, because it’s the subject of Dateline NBC tonight.
The basic thrust of the show is the cops rushed to judgment against Stephanie’s husband.
The husband received a 112-year sentence.
Besides the whole killing his wife thing, the husband’s other big mistake was hiring a defense atty. who looks just like George Wendt’s little brother…
Didn’t see Dateline, but that seems to be an awfully flimsy conviction. I mean, it’s definitely possible he did it, but if seems there was no direct evidence and he was basically convicted solely on motive and opportunity, at least based on that article.
I did watch Dateline, and while I agree that there wasn’t any “O.J. Level” physical evidence against the guy, the amount of circumstantial evidence was substantial, including an ex-girlfriend who was choked and threatened with death years before. (he killed his wife by choking her to death)
If I was a betting man I would offer 25 to 1 odds that he is indeed guilty.
Here ya go.I also came away with the thought that he was probably guilty.
I have nothing to add, but I’m sorry too enipla.
