Sub-titled: Perhaps there’s something to this ‘getting old and losing your marbles thing’
I made an appointment with my car dealer to get some things done to the car today. I get my work done at the dealer I bought from because I’m still under warranty, and because I really like the service they provide. You get assigned to a ‘team’ and have a writer that’s your guy there. Mine is Edgar, and he’s amazing. Knows me when I call, knows my car without looking it up.
So, I told Edgar last week that I needed front brakes, I have this weird whining kind of metallic noise in the lower gears when I accelerate hard (I know - ‘don’t do that’ - screw that, I have a fast car, I’m going to use all the horses), a have a body squeak and I need oil, tire rotation/balance.
I assume in advance this isn’t going to be one of those where I wait in the showroom checking out 350Z’s while I wait, so we arrange for the rental, which they pay for anyway.
We both figure it’ll be afternoon when I can come in to get the car. I dropped the car off, signed the rental papers, toss my laptop and bag into the backseat of the POS Dodge Caliber I have and toodle off to work.
Edgar just called, said they did the front brakes, flushed the fluid, found the squeak (hood adjustment), rotated, balanced, lubed, oiled, changed wiper blades and oh yeah, found the whiny noise under acceleration. Seems that is something in the catalytic converter, which is still under warranty so cool - N/C. Except that the converter they’re getting won’t be at the shop until morning, so it’ll be tomorrow before I get my car back.
I’m overjoyed at the thought of driving the POS Caliber another day, but figure, ok now I have time to run to the gym, and dry cleaners to drop clothes off on the way home, instead of taking the time to go get the car.
Except (you know where this goes, right?) that my gym bag, and the dry cleaning are where?
In my car, at the dealer.

The killer is that I was driving away from the dealer this morning, I did the mental checklist of everything I thought I should grab from the car, in just THIS eventuality. And forgot the dry cleaning and the gym bag.
Someone help me find my glasses, would ya’?
