Damn ! Another fine jazz legend leaves the stage.. (Pharoah Sanders)

Tenor sax player Pharoah Sanders - John Coltrane collaborator - has died
aged 81.

Saw him at the Jazz Cafe in Camden town, fabulous night out !!

Oh no! That just leaves……Sonny Rollins.

And Charles Lloyd

It’s definitely been a tough month for the jazz world (Pharoah, Ramsey Lewis, and Joey DeFrancesco). :frowning:

Steve Swallow and Carla Bley are still hangin’ in there.

Also lost British sax player Barbara Thompson recently.

Me too. I also saw him at Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Showcase in Chicago and The Blue Note in New York. Phenomenal performances every time.

The records he made in the late 60s with Leon Thomas singing were special to me. You didn’t have to be spiritually inclined to get a dose of holy sincerity off them, it introduced you to different ways of seeing the world.

WBCN played this often, in spite of it being 15 minutes long. Play it, and an African shaman will appear in your living room!

Oh yes.
One of my (& my GF’s) favourites…
Yodelicious.
