I have the hardest time finding shirts, especially button up ones because the always look like they’re about to bust open. I found one I like and it stayed buttoned at the store when I tried it on and didn’t look like it was going to pop open. Well I get ready to go out tonight and the buttons in the middle start coming undone (they’re kinda small) and I couldn’t get them to stay together! I asked up and down my hall and no one had any safety pins. So I got it buttoned and went out anyway. I only had problems twice, but still! Why can’t I find shirts that don’t look like they’re going to pop open! If I go a size bigger the rest of the shirt is too big for me. Damn breast. Or is it damn clothing companies?
i have the same exact problem
Can I come shopping with you two next time you go?
:D&R:
[sub]This reminds me of that picture from that National Lampoon book- “Keep off dam breast”[/sub]
I swear, I hate my tits. They are too big, I can’t wear anything. Once I was wearing a shirt and the very middle button popped off. Arg! I wish I could get rid of these damn things. Anyone else want some?
Raises hand
Um, yes, please!!
No! You dont want them! Trust me!
It’s the clothing companies, designing for the ‘average’ female body (HA!)
I always hated looking like I was wearing the wrong size. That is one of the reasons I learned to sew my own clothes. Took me awhile (and lots of muslin and swearing), but I’ve found that redesigning the pattern across the bustline and/or attaching an inner placket helps alleviate ‘gaposis’. On some button-down shirts, I’ve added a new strip of material in a contrasting color or material, and voila! I can breathe again without worrying about losing a button.
(I realize most of this is a rant at genetics and heredity.)
IQM - How is the rest of the shirt ‘too big’? Is it the waist? The sleeve length? The shoulders? Can they be taken in to make you feel more comfortable?
I hate shopping. If it isn’t my big tits getting in the way, it’s my big hips or my long legs or my long torso. Arrrgh.
…material to make a new set of buttonholes (covering the old buttonholes), and voila…
Dammed allergies again!
You can all send me photos of this problem and I’ll see if I can help…
If they are all real, then they’re never too big
screech-owl- It just looks funny when I go a size bigger, cause the rest of the shirt is too big, or something, I dunno. I cant get them altered or anything, I’m a college student (equals broke). But most of the time even the biggest size doesnt fit me in the top. I’m a double D
neuroman- only if you’re cute
ssskuggiii- me too. to get pants to fit the rest of me the waist ends up being too big or the legs too long. It sucks.
They are definitely real. But still too big.
yup
Please! Yes!! Someone take these darn things! Or, at the very least make the darn button-up shirts to <here’s an idea~!> actually fit us!
I know what you mean, screech-owl. I’ve done some alterations to my clothes myself. Although, these days, I mostly don’t get too many tops with buttons for that very reason. I’m too busy to do a lot of sewing on my clothes, so I buy loose tops in knit or some other non-binding material. That’s also why I tend to wear somewhat low cut tops at times, they fit better for some reason. After all, I don’t need to advertize when these darn things get everywhere several minutes ahead of me.
And that’s another thing. I’d like to know what dimwit decided that if you’re large you must be short, and if you’re tall you must be skinny. Well, guess what, you fools? I’m tall<for a woman, 5’7"> and large.
Try having my proportions. I’m 5’9" and my frame is wider naturally than most people they size clothes for. THe pants are too short, the bustline never fits, my shoulders take up more room than the clothing manufacturer thought they would, etc. And in no way am I fat by any measure, unless you count models and actresses. To get clothes that fit means “plus size” where there is no selection and half of the stuff is elastized. This would be one reason why I sometimes buy men’s pants, and a bigger reason why I borrow guy friend’s clothing. It fits, but still makes me look girly b/c of my figure.
So is there just ONE thats the major problem or what?!?!?
I found a lovely fitted silk shirt at a thrift store and altered the darts (front and back) to give me more room in the bust. I must have put in an extra three inches or so just to keep the middle button from gaping, and guess what? It STILL does it. I now have a permanent safety pin in that shirt.
I know what you mean about the impossibility of finding tall/large clothes, purplebear. I can’t wear a dress because the waistline never hits me anywhere near my waist, even if the dress is long enough. And what is it with swimsuit manufacturers? The bra people realize that breasts come in different cup sizes; why can’t the swimsuit people figure it out?
I’m a DDD, and I have the same problem. I have to shop in the plus sizes to get a top that fits over my breasts, and then the rest of the top is out of proportion.
I’m still thinking about the reduction surgery…
