Also, it is now midnight in my time zone. Someone just shot off some fireworks very close by and she didn’t even jump off the couch, so thankfully, they don’t bother her.
Adorable girl! Glad she found her home.
Aw, she is so cute.
It’s one of the Three Great Lies, along with “the check is in the mail.” “I am only going to the shelter to look at the dogs/cats.”
(Yep, been there, got the dog/cat.)
Lucky guy. Lucky dog.
I love that she’s a couch potato dog. Happy New year to both of you from Buddy (who’s doing pretty well) and Sweetie. And me, of course.
Not much to update, except Angel really seems to be settling right in. Someone rang the doorbell today and she alerted me to the “trespasser.” So she’s starting to become a watchdog. She’s beginning to think of this place as her home. Wednesday it’s off to the vet for her free wellness exam. Fortunately, the regular vet I’ve been using honors the certificate from the shelter, so I’ll be able to keep using them.
Congratulations to both of you!
I’m happy for you and Angel!
What a beautiful girl with such soulful eyes!
I can certainly see why she adopted you.
It is sad that people often won’t give an older dog a chance. Ones like your Angel, who have been a happy family member for years, come with a knowledge of ‘good dog’ behavior that makes fitting them into your household relatively seamless. And they are incredibly grateful. They know what they have lost and want it back.
Believe it or not, her foray into the trash is a good sign. She trusts you enough now to know that a small transgression won’t jeopardize her newfound happiness.
Please give her a scritch behind the ears from me and convey friendly tail wags from my 3 rescue doggies who are sprawled on the floor watching football with me.
I am sure your Brewster would be pleased to know that his human has a responsible doggie friend to look after him.
Rescue is the best breed of dog. She’s lovely.
I’ve never had a puppy, and frankly, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea how to housebreak one. All of my dogs have found me. All have been rescues, fully grown, and fabulous! Upon reflection, I think I was the rescue.
I last had a puppy in 2003. Housebreaking her wasn’t a problem. We had an older dog that was housebroken. We just put them outside together and the puppy learned from the older dog.
Congratulations on your beautiful new dog. She’s lovely.

Oh, she’s just precious! Congrats to you both on finding each other!
Mazal tov on your new friendship!
Well, Angel has been here for a week now. A couple of updates. Well, not really updates, because she’s such a steady-natured dog and everything’s going along swimmingly.
I took her to the vet yesterday for her wellness check. She got right in the car and lay quietly in the back seat. Very nice to drive without a dog jumping around in the car. She’s good on a leash, no pulling ahead. She was very laid back in the vet’s office. Many pets are anxious at the vet. Not Angel, in fact I think she was a little bored. She took treats from the vet and the staff. The vet said she’s in excellent health.
I went to my doctor’s office this morning to give blood for lab work. Just routine before my examination, I don’t have any health worries either. I left Angel alone at home for about an hour and a half. And I remembered to put the garbage can away this time. She was insanely happy and excited when I came home, but she behaved herself perfectly while I was gone. She is really settling in. I’ve taught her to sit before I give her a treat or put her outside. In fact, she’s even sitting without a command. She’s very attentive to me, follows me around the house, and makes lots of eye contact.
Sounds like you got an awesome dog. And she got an awesome owner.
You are certainly a wonderful advertisement for adopting a mature pet at a shelter. Congratulations, and I hope reading this or hearing you talk about Angel will encourage others to do the same. She really is a beautiful dog.
Bumping this. The vet who put Brewster to sleep sent me a cast of his paw print. There was a bit of dust in the air that turned my vision blurry for a couple of minutes. It’s only been 2 1/2 weeks and I still miss him. The cast is something I can remember him by and run my fingers across and touch.
I’ve noticed I see less of his fur in the corners of the house. He shed quite a bit and I had to run the vacuum pretty frequently. Angel’s fur is quite different. It’s short and fine and more like hair. I don’t think she’ll be shedding quite as much.
She’s settled in quite well. She follows me around and watches everything I do, usually hoping I’ll give her something to eat. She’s very polite. She’s learned to sit when I feed her or put her outside. I came home from the store today and she was deliriously happy, running around, and wagging her tail, and wriggling her butt. She ran across the kitchen floor and skidded to a stop against my legs. It was so funny.
I"m glad it’s working out so well for you. A friend recently lost her 12 year old greyhound. They had a second greyhound at the time. Today she sent a text that they just adopted a 6 month old greyhound puppy who was being given up be his owner because the owner didn’t have enough time home with the dog. My friend is over the moon at having another dog in the family.
