Damn stroller makers (and assorted manufacturer rants)

I bought a Kolcrap umbrella type stroller from Target three months ago and have only used it MAYBE twice a week for the past two months if that much. Yesterday my DH and I decided to go for a walk with the baby. Plop the baby in the stroller and off we go. We walked to the park 3 blocks from the house and right as we got there one of the back wheels fell off  It was actually the little hubcap thingy that came off and that made the wheel come off. WHY in HELL can’t companies make things that last longer than 3 months any more?!?!? They sure as HELL CHARGE enough! It’s not like my kids outgrown the damn thing. For cripes sake he’s 7 months old and the stroller is SUPPOSED to be able to handle 35 pound three year olds. I am NOT buying another one of those damn things from you EVER again. I’d rather use the heavy, bulky baby limo I have than that convenient piece of SHIT you sold me. At least THEN I know my baby is SAFE.

Wow we beat the crap out of ours and have for over a year now! Watch mine fall apart when next I use it simply because I said that

That does suck though!

did you get the red and grey one that you need 2 hands to fold or a different one?

Ours is blue with some kind of animals on it… It was pretty no frills, we need two hands to fold… Doesn’t recline but does have a snack tray and canopy (she’s too tall for the canopy though)

We bought this one because the $15 umbrella stroller from walmart didn’t roll very well and was too short for hubby to push.

WHY praytell do they make them where you have to use 2 hands? I have a bitch of a time folding it when I’m out alone with the baby. I have to put him on the ground (and hope to Og that he doesn’t decide to start crawling) , lay him on the bus stop benchwhere everyone plants their nasty asses (and hope to OG he doesn’t roll) or wait till I’m on the packed bus and fight for a seat so I can set him down (on the moving bus) while I fold the damn thing up. (see what I get for sending a first time father out to get a stroller :eyeroll: )

Have you tried a carrier with him instead of a stroller? I’m not sure what else you have to take with you but those backpack carriers look really handy.

I don’t usually go out alone with the munchkin and will do a lot less travelling alone when her brother arrives so I usually have hubby handle all the stuff like folding strollers and packing things away.

I have a backpack carrier but it KILLS my back. I don’t see how people can carry their 40 pound kids on their backs when my 20 pounder is killing me. My hubby loves it and uses it when he’s out with us so it’s not going completely to waste. I’m actually going this morning and getting a stroller I can close with one hand so I think life is going to be great again.

Don’t forget to take the old one back and complain loudly to the store, and if they don’t do anything about it, write the manufacturer and complain even more loudly. They DO listen, actually. And will probably try to do something about it. Even if they are a heartless, godless big corporation…

Have you considered a sling? The ones shown here are very similar to what I used with my son. As an infant he would lay in it in front of me. As he got older and heavier he would sit upright on my hip. Easy to use, almost hands free and NO back pain. It was still useful when he was 4 and would fall asleep while we were out. I’m fairly tiny and it was a breeze to carry a 45 pound kid.

Many people are now marketing these, but basic ones are easy to make if you have rudimentary sewing skills. A few available styles almost completely envelop your torso. Gah! Mine was essentially a pleated piece of fabric, webbing straps and a couple D-rings.

Four kids, and I learned my lesson on umbrella strollers early on. Strollers are one of those things that really are built according to the price you pay for them. A $15 stroller, umbrella style, seems to last about 15 minutes.

As peri mentioned, a sling is what I found worked best. This is the one I bought, and it was perfect! The weight distribution meant that I could carry a toddler in it with no back pain, while I had a hard time carrying an infant in a Snugli without a lot of pain.
