I like the show Survivor. And for me, a large portion of the enjoyment of the show is trying to guess who will be voted off each week and discussing my guesses with other viewers. The most frequent place where I do that is here on the weekly Survivor threads.
Apparently, there is some information out there which reveals who wins the show. Or maybe who the final two are. I don’t know because I have intentionally avoided finding out. It would ruin the rest of the show for me if I knew, or if I even just thought I knew who was going to win.
Most of the people on this board agree with this position and have been very scrupulous about using spoiler warnings on any information from outside of the show. Unfortunately, along with the thoughtful majority there is a thoughtless minority. These people have repeatedly made it clear that “we know something you don’t know” and in general are acting like incontinent three year olds. While none of them have actually blurted out the “secret” so far, in my opinion it’s only a matter of time before self-importance overrules whatever self-restraint still exists. So I have reluctantly decided that I will not be reading any more survivor threads until the series is over. While this eliminates half the pleasure I get from the show, finding out who wins would eliminate it all.
So get the point, you idiots. You don’t know anything special. Anyone one of us could learn what you know with a two minute Google search. The only reason you know something we don’t is because we chose not to spoil our own enjoyment. And if we don’t want the surprise ruined, who are you to tell us?
I’m keeping track of though show as well, and I always thought the identity of the final winner was a very closely guarded secret. I’ve heard (from a teacher who had a friend on the show) that the contestants sign all sort of confidentiality agreements, and are liable for millions if they squeal. They’re not supposed to tell their families, and I’m sure the production crew was selected on the basis of how tight they could keep their yappers. I don’t think any member of the public knows who will win with any certainty
There was media sensation, some seasons ago, last time the identity of the Survivor winner leaked out prematurely. Everyone thought the black guy had won, because some hacker had found it hidden in the official site. It was all over the place (I remember Chris Rock saying something about it [“should have known that the brother won Survivor”]). Turns out, he didn’t actually win.
If there is some info that indicates the winner, it’s probably just as available to you as it is them, and as such, I don’t see why it’s off limits to use as discussion fodder. I’ve spent a few minutes yahooing (I hate suspense), and I haven’t come across anything definitive. Now, it was hardly an earth shattering investigation, but I strongly doubt this info is as wide spread as you assume.
The spoiler in the most recent thread in Cafe Society is a joke.
The spoiler box only contains a smiliey, and the info under the box says Joanna is the winner, which is obviously not true, since she was voted off weeks ago.
I want to be spoiler-free, too, and haven’t read anything here. I think most people here are considerate enough to know to put anything like that in a spoiler box with a warning.
I’d stay away from the Television Without Pity site, since they claim to have definitive info in their spoiler threads.
You’re pissing your pants over a “spoiler” in the CS thread that:
A. Wasn’t a spoiler
-and-
B. Said non-spoiler was contained in a properly coded spoiler box.
That “spoiler” was posted three days ago, and you responded with your little hissy fit in the thread itself. Why this thread is necessary is beyond me…obsess much? Get back to me when someone actually reveals a legitimate spoiler and thereby ruins your enjoyment of the show. In the meantime, I’ll just chalk this up to you being a whiny crybaby.
Since a good few survivor fans will read this can you please take into account that people from outside the US are behind you by a number of weeks. Here in Ireland we’re only on the 2nd week so please don’t start a thread with the name of the winner or anything like that in the title. Pretty please with a fucking cheery on top if you will
The specific spoiler at issue here is not exactly a big secret; it even made CNN a few weeks ago. And while somebody opened up a separate thread about that spoiler–properly labeled and everything–it has never appeared in any of the weekly Survivor threads in Cafe Society, not even in a spoiler box.
The closest thing to an external spoiler (i.e., not based on the show itself or its previews) I’ve seen this season was somebody who mentioned that Alex and Shawna were dating after they returned from filming. The implication was that they got to know each other from spending time together at Loser’s Lodge or on the jury. As we now know, that was an unfounded assumption. But I would have preferred that even that should have stayed out of the threads or in a spoiler box.
The complaint in the OP seems to be based on the mere mention that a significant spoiler exists, plus a joking follow-up that a person who has already lost will win the game. While that may be annoying, it certainly does not spoil the show in any way.
So in sum, keep the spoilers out of the Survivor threads, and keep calm if somebody merely mentions that spoilers exist elsewhere.
I think you mean Bikini Atoll, and it seems to be quite habitable these days, except that you don’t want to eat food grown in the soil. It’s also one of the world’s greatest scuba diving destinations, thanks to the many cool WWII warships that were sunk by the nuclear tests.
