Damn, Xander's dead. (Nicholas Brendon)

I’ve now seen statements on Facebook by SMG, AH, and CC, and they all mention his rocking chair that he had in his trailer. Apparently he was known for it.

Does that mean something?

I agree.

Jack O’Toole: I’m not afraid to die. I’m already dead.

Xander Harris: Yeah, but this is different. Being blowed up isn’t walking around and drinking with your buddies dead. It’s little bits being swept up by a janitor dead and I don’t think you’re ready for that.

Jack O’Toole: Are you?

Xander Harris: I like the quiet.

You mean the letters? It means that I was too lazy to type out Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, and Charisma Carpenter. I assumed it would be glaringly obvious from context.

Oof. Young, younger than me.

Loved Buffy back in the day. It sort of what got me into message boards, weirdly enough (also later what got me to swear off fan communities and internet fandom in general). Brendon was a substantial part of that. I never really bought him as a genuine nerd, but I enjoyed his character all the same. RIP.

It baffled me that they all referred to a rocking chair. Now I know why.

This is what Charisma Carpenter said.

I will miss the version of the man I once knew - someone who was so warm and loving. He was cuddly, funny, silly, self-deprecating, and supremely talented. I loved every scene we had together back in the day. He always kept me on my toes, never delivering a line the same way twice, forcing me to become a better actor by listening.

I will always remember him in my mind’s eye, in his trailer with the door wide open, in his rocking chair, smoking a cigarette and listening to music. From his trailer, which my window faced on the lot, I could hear all the bands that exemplify the 90s but are also, for me, tied up in the memory of Nicky. Bands like: Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, STP, Foo Fighters, OMC, Green Day, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Sublime, Creed, Barenaked Ladies, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cranberries, Lauryn Hill, Blink-182, 311, Blur, Garbage, Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls. I miss those days and cling to those memories of him today.

I offer my condolences to his family, his closest friends - who were with him to the end - and to the fans around the world who found comfort in his work.

May he be at peace now.

And this, from that post by Charisma on Facebook, is a picture of Nicholas, and the rocking chair in question.

I saw a photo the other day of his twin with him. That episode where they both play dumb and cool Xander was so much fun.

Maybe it was connected to his back trouble. (JFK was known for using a rocking chair, which apparently helped with his own back pain.)

Sorry that Brendon had so many troubles, anyway. For the record, he was pretty convincing as a nerd in his Criminal Mind episodes.

Condolences to his family (including the twin brother–that must be a rough loss) and friends.
