It’s a Pittsburgh, or Western PA thing. VERY common here.
I told my dad about it, and he just shrugged. (He’s the biggest sucker when it comes to the animals-he lets them get away with murder and they all know it)

It is not uncommon here in central-PA. I have heard the usage regularly enough - and one of the guys I used to work with from Canada commented on it just as you did. I hardly notice it any more.

I say “needs replaced” and I’m from South Carolina… but my mom’s from Pittsburgh.
I’ve only had my Luna-brat for a few months, and so far the most heinous thing I’ve caught her doing is sticking her face in my glass and drinking my soda. She does NOT need sugar or caffiene, she’s hyper enough.
She used to try to attack my hairforks and hairsticks, but I finally convinced her it would be in her best interest to knock that crap off. Mainly because she never tried to kill them unless they were in my hair (and she’s not very accurate with her aim once she starts flailing those claws around), but also because I spend a lot of money on them and if she destroys them I’m going to sell her to the circus.
