Damn you, Freeze.com!

My wife, not knowing any better, went to Freeze.com, just to have a nose around. She somehow let it become her homepage - AND NOW THERE’S NO WAY TO REMOVE IT! She’s running XP, and I’ve tried everything I can think of to get rid of - homepage to “blank,” homepage to any other site
But NO! There is Freeze, and Freeze again! We have a spyware monitor installed, but it’s not picking up anything. I go to the site, and I can find no instructions on how to de-select their crappy page!
I consider it intrusive and unwelcome, as well as a waste of bandwidth.

Anyone else know how to dump the damned thing? Or do you know of other pages that hijack Explorer like this?

I assume you’ve already run Ad-Aware and Spybot?

You need a young priest and an old priest…

also, try Hijack This! , if you are computer savvy and have already run AdAware and SpyBot

This has happened to me a couple of times with different sites.

What are you using for your browser? If it’s internet explorer, then try running adaware, spybot, and a good virus detector. The site somehow somewhere seems to have a hold on your system and hopefully these programs will detect it and help remove it.

If you are using mozilla or another alternate browser, my suggestion is to delete the browser from your system, run adaware, spybot, and the virus detector, then reinstall the browser. This worked for me when I was using mozilla.

As it has already been suggested, install and use an alternate browser. I highly recommend mozilla firefox. Most spyware and the like are designed using flaws in internet explorer. Mozilla for the most part does not have these same flaws and in turn helps prevent most spyware from being able to embed itself into your computer.

Good luck!

Assuming they aren’t sleazy enough to get you to put more crap on your PC, their support page http://support.freeze.com/ seems to deal with this question.

And this of course makes you want to buy Freeze.com products.

Where do some of these jokers get their marketing notions from? Al Capone?

I just spend a considerable amount of time scanning through those sites, but I just can’t seem to find the pages that have the instructions for correcting this Internet Explorer browser hijack. Can you perhaps link directly to the page that deals with the topic in the OP?

Thanks,

Binarydrone

Yeah, but you know what? Rather than just answering my question directly, they want to know my flippin’ e-mail address, so’s they can send me a super-secret coded message or something.

I’m thinking Firefox is her best bet. I’ve used it, I like it, it works for me; it’ll work for her, too.

I believe neuroman is pointing you all to better browsers that would permanently fix the the problem.

Grab the Microsoft Antispyware tool. Don’t let the “Beta” scare you.

Chances are good it will un-Freeze you, and thereafter, lock your home page - anything trying to change it will result in a warning box giving you the option to allow or block the change.

Ah, nice one - I’ll admit it, I was a little offput when I saw the “Beta” moniker.

Whoooooooooooooooooooosh!

Ha! You asked the question so earnestly you fooled me too on first reading.

I wish the OP the best of luck fixing the IE problem but I offered the links in case he and his wife are interested in saying goodbye to that heavily targeted slagpile of a browser.

Oh, it’s a hard thing, fighting tradition and inertia…
