I fired up the computer again after the show to vote for Kelly. She and Donny are battling it out for the third spot, and after tonight’s performances, I think Kelly deserves it more.
twicks - Donnie left the door wide open, didn’t he? And the “blame it on Marie” schtick got old real fast. I thought Gilles’ advice was very interesting, but hard for someone like Donnie to pull off.
There weren’t that many dances tonight that really wowed me.
StG
None of the dances tonight wowed me, but I voted fairly heavily for Donny. He got lesser scores from the judges last night, but I think he’s been a better dancer than Kelly throughout the season.
It’s been pretty obvious from the beginning that Mya should and probably will win this season. Joanna, Donny, and the late Aaron Carter were the three next best, Donny edging out Aaron by a centimeter (based on judges’ scores). So based on that, Mya and Joanna should be the final two, in which case Mya should walk over her. But Donny and Kelly both have audience support, which makes things interesting, both for tonight and next week.
Have quit watching, but what did Gilles tell Donnie? I’m sick of the Osmonds, so the sooner Donnie gets the boot the better, even if I’m not watching. Wouldn’t it be funny if Kelly won?
Robbin’Hood - Gilles told Donnie that the key to a successful tango was to make it so over-the-top sexy that you made people watching it uncomfortable. Donnie just isn’t able to bring that to the floor. Kelly’s come a long way, but I think Donnie’s a better dancer and better performer. Kelly’s got that underdog appeal that makes you want to see her succeed. Neither of them have a chance at beating Joanna or Mya, so it makes little difference who goes tonight.
There sure haven’t been many 10’s given out this season.

Thanks, StG. I adore Gilles. He was my fave to win last season and he was robbed!
Well, this is my first season watching. I should have realized the popularity of a celeb matters more than dancing proficiency. Joanna Krupa and Mya are obviously better technical dancers. But, the popularity for Donny Osmond and Kelly Osbourne mattered more.
Good thing I watch the show primarily for the dancing. I’m not invested in any particular dancer. Although, I will miss Joanna and her bouncy two friends. lol
I doubt I’ll watch the finals now–Joanna was robbed. And she seemed like a real class act throughout the whole competition.
Mya is definitely deserving of the win, but I wish the DWTS producers wouldn’t recruit any more “ringers” like her for future seasons. It’s been a little boring watching her easily outshine her competition every week.
Well, if the voting habits of the people on this board are an indication of the rest of the country, it looks like everyone figured it was between Kelly and Donny for third, and piled their votes on one or the other, completely leaving out who should have been the solid second place winner. Of course, Joanna was totally robbed. All the best dancers (except Mya) have been voted off, which is so unfair. I knew something was up when they did such an odd order in the announcing who would stay.
Of course, in the end it doesn’t really matter because Mya has been the winner since the first week, but it would be nice if the best dancers were acknowledged by making it to the finals.
Yeah, I think that’s exactly what happened.
I was mostly watching So You Think You Can Dance, just switching over at commercials (though I did see the “Under Pressure” video, which I thought was a hoot), so I was surprised when I tuned in at 9:55 to see Derek and Joanna up there as well. Yikes. What a disappointment for them!
Do you think they’d been warned in advance that they’d lost? I don’t see how they could possibly have been prepared to reprise the waltz, otherwise.
Agree. We’ve had contestants – plenty of them – before with “some” dance background, but she was well beyond amateur level coming in. It really does make for a less interesting season, overall.
Not a great cast this year.
That was my first thought too, but my boyfriend pointed out they could have simply told them that whoever loses will have to dance and they’d both be ready.
I’m sure they must have figured something was up by that point, anyway. Usually the eliminations are designed so that the two people you’d expect to be maybe going home are the last two standing to take advantage of the maximum suspense. So yesterday, we’d expect Donny and Kelly to be the last ones. The fact that Joanna was even there made me guess an upset was coming. I don’t think Derek looked too surprised, either. He must know how the show works by now.
The one thing that bothered me is, usually, when someone who really didn’t deserve to go home does, the judges take a moment to tell that person how great they were and how sad it is that they’re going home, sometimes even chastising the voters. They did that with Aaron… geez, Len told him that if Aaron were his son, he’d be proud of him… but they didn’t do that for Joanna. Did the final dance thing take up too much time? She clearly shouldn’t have gone home and it would have been nice if the judges did something more than just stand there and clap.
I wanted to see Derek’s freestyle. But I think I was cheering more for him than for her and since he’s not the star, well…
I’m surprised that Kelly’s still there. Hopefully, she’ll not be #1.
I never watch the results show. Joanne got auffed? That’s …unexpected. Especially with Donnie’s big goof on th etango on Monday. Who else was in the bottom two?
StG
Kelly, but they said it wasn’t necessarily the bottom two.
Len did say some very nice stuff to both Joanna and Kelly before they did the reveal.
All the actual ballroom dance sites are saying, “Finally! Someone noticed that she can’t dance!” about Joanna, for what that’s worth.
Interesting. I obviously don’t know anything except what looks pretty to my untrained eye, but are they really saying that Joanna is worse than Kelly and Donny?
No, the consensus is that Kelly is definitely a worse dancer than Joanna, but improving. Joanna seemed to be pretty stalled where she was (like Mya, who also doesn’t seem to have improved - she was very good at the beginning, and she is still very good, with all the same flaws). I think there was a lot of outrage at Joanna being given scores that didn’t really reflect the quality of her dancing - she is very stiff, no matter how much fringe Derek puts on her.
Donny is a mixed bag - some of his dances are very good, some … aren’t. But he is consistently fun to watch, at least.
I gave all of my votes to Donny tonight.
Mya’s paso totally didn’t do it for me, and the freestyle – very disappointing. Serious misfire by Dmitri.
I love Kelly to pieces, but she didn’t dance well tonight – lots of very visible mistakes in the freestyle.
Donny danced clean, and he was entertaining. Of the three people dancing tonight, as they danced tonight, he deserves to be the champion.
I haven’t been able to enjoy Mya’s performances. There’s no emotion or passion for the dance she’s doing. It doesn’t seem like she’s enjoying herself at all.
Donny has consistently improved throughout the competition. He obviously is enjoying himself. There’s more of a connection with his dance partner. I had to vote for Donny.
Well, I thought Mya’s Paso was great, but it’s true, the freestyle one was pretty much a misfire. Dmitry seems to have a problem coming up with imaginative choreography.
I don’t think the megadance or whatever that was called worked very well either; I had trouble keeping track of everything that was going on, and it seemed like they only danced each style for about 20 seconds or so.
Donnie wasn’t perfect, but I suspect he will win the whole enchilada. Kelly didn’t quite meet the standard of the other two, but her freestyle might have been a winner if she hadn’t crashed to the ground during one of the lifts. Oh, well.
