What did Macy Gray say? Was it unbleeped on the East Coast?
Did anyone else get a huge gay vibe from Tom Delay? I’m straight and do not have gaydar, so I’m interested in other’s opinion.
OK, I am really, really angry about Len’s tirade about Dmitri’s choreography in the Viennese Waltz. They are doing American style Viennese Waltz, and that was totally appropriate choreography. They probably spent more time in hold than a typical championship couple would in that dance. And if Len can’t see partnering without the couple being in full-on dance hold… I’m just disgusted. He basically just took my favorite style of dance and crapped all over it, and then said it wasn’t even real ballroom dancing. They did a beautiful routine in the style they were told to do, and if he’s too ignorant to know what that style is, then what is he doing setting himself up as the effing ballroom expert?
Pissant. Fortunately, it shouldn’t follow her around after this week, and presumably Dmitri will know to deal with it. It still disgusts me.
I didn’t hear it, but on TWoP people are saying that she said she had “popped her cherry” on that dance.
Not me.
And there were a couple moments during that waltz that she just lit up. That was cool to watch. I love this show.
I liked Mya’s waltz, no matter what Len said. And I liked Derek’s choreography.
It seems like a lot of the models (Brooke was an exception) are really awkward when they try to move. Kathy reminded me of some of the other models that have been on the show.
Macy did have a bizarre quality.
I wonder if I would have noticed Natalie not smiling had it not been in her intro segment. As it was, I kept noticing her face go into “i’m concentrating now” glare.
Not only was I surprised by how good Kelly was, I was totally surprised by what a pretty girl was under that trowel full of make-up she usually wears.
I missed half of the long dances but from what I saw. . . Macy is just too big. She should be on a different reality show-- Foxy Boxing or something. Debbie Mazar should be her first opponent. Debbie was so cut and defined her muscles distracted me. When Asian judge said she was too strong and points and muscled through the dance, I knew exactly what she was talking about.
Blondie with the fringe wore the perfect dress for her dance. Kathie danced older than I expected. Kelly totally charmed and surprised me. I did not expect her to take direction so well. I expected her to be more like Macy. And poor Mya. I expected her to dance well and she did-- I only saw her cha cha-- but I expected her to dance better than she did so she was a victim of my expectations. Mellisa was a trooper and I look forward to her continued improvement.
Question: Who was the blond with the fringe?
I think Macy and Irvin may be gone. I hope Hamilton goes, though.
Yellow costume, dancing with another blond (Derek Hough, a former champion on the show)? That’s the other model, Joanna Krupa. Definitely the better of the two models – though amarinth is right, with models, on this show, that’s not saying much.
ETA: Assume Macy will go home tonight, and hope the male is Ashley.
And Tom DeLay coming across as gay … hm, that might make him watchable for Oy!, but I think it’s just that het males of a certain age aren’t comfortable in spandex.
Oy! doesn’t find Delay watchable regardless of his sexual orientation.
Oy! also desperately wants to scrub her brain of Kathy Ireland. In fact, she’ll go beyond that: In the privacy of her own home, with no intention of ever doing anything whatsoever to make it happen, Oy! wants Kathy Ireland to die. Possibly painfully, as long as I don’t have to watch.
So, the women in summary:
Debi: She didn’t dance very well, and, granted, I’m a straight woman, but I’m just not seeing the sexy here. I’m not all that big of fan of Maks, and they don’t seem to be a very good fit for one another.
Melissa Joan: Meh. I find her mildly annoying, but her partner is a two-time champion.
Mya: Really, really good, Len’s petulance notwithstanding. That 5 was unconscionable.
Kathy: If I needed one thing to make me hate her more, it was the gratuitous introduction of God into her interview with Samantha. I really, really like Tony, but Kathy Must Go.
Natalie: Not in the top two now, but definitely has the potential to move up. These gold medalists…
Macy: Very weird woman - everything about her is strange. Terrible dancer. I voted for her three times in hopes of sending Kathy home.
Joanna: As noted, only the second model on the show to actually be able to dance. Very much helped along, I suspect, by having the adorable, yummy, and incredibly able Derek as her pro.
Kelly: I like Louis, so I was delighted to see how well she did. Bit of a cheat, really, having the camera on her parents emoting so much, but she really did do quite well. She cleaned up good.
So: the prime contenders right now are Mya and Joanna, with Natalie and Kelly as good potentials. The other four should sink quickly, heaven willing, Kathy first.
I was absolutely charmed by Kelly. Who knew? I think she is a strong contender for the women, and Donny Osmond and Mark Dascascos for the men. They were both fantastic.
I couldn’t believe how stiff Kathy Ireland was. Yikes.
I wasn’t thinking so much about if he were gay – which, who knows, he might be, but I doubt it – but just the possibility of him being really uncomfortable with how his masculinity is or isn’t being projected would make for some entertaining viewing.
Okay, it was a forlorn hope, but you’re my pal and I want you to enjoy this season.
Wow…I’ve never heard anyone with a strong opinion about Kathy Ireland. My entire knowledge of her was gained through watching Alien From L.A.
First week eliminations have been announced.
Ashley and Macy. No big surprises there, methinks.
My string of being completely surprised by this show has ended, but in a good way.
How are result spoilers being handled in this thread? Is it O.K. to not box them the next day? Or is it understood that this thread will contain spoilers? Don’t wanna ruin anyone’s fun.
Generally we box on the East Coast if the show hasn’t aired on the West Coast, but next day we don’t bother.
Neither of those was a surprise, and I’m not sorry to see either of them go. I thought leaving Kelly to final three of women was just mean, there’s no way she actually got the third-fewest votes, and that could only have been done out of some misplaced sense of drama.
Missed most of the show because I was watching “So You Think You Can Dance” – yes, it turns out I consider an audition show for that more amusing than a results show for DWTS, who knew? – and just switched over during commercials, so missed all of the announcing of results for the men, other than a backstage interview with the Hobbit and Mohawk Guy (wait, does the big fighter really have a mohawk or am I confusing him with the conniving jock on “Glee,” which I also watched last night) – who were the bottom three for the men?
(Good lord, is that really one sentence? Get that woman an editor!)
I expected Macy to be out first. This only disappoints me because John Roberts is a local boy – I was taking lessons at the studio where he was based early in his career.
Twicky, the bottom three were in fact the bottom three: Ashley, Michael and Satan.
I knew there was little chance of eliminating Satan from the pack last night, but I had high hopes that Macy’s bizarre charm might win her enough votes to keep her in the show while Former Super Model from Hell (in the future referred to as FSMfH) would go home so I’d never have to see her stiff movements or her professional (and I suspect professionally very tightened) pseudo-sweet smile, or hear her banal little voice announcing that she’s dancing because with God all things are possible while little kids are dying of leukemia every day.
Now the competition opens up, and for a while at least, they’re only eliminating one per week. That means that even if one of them is eliminated next week, the other will survive. Shit.
Er, yes, Chuck has a sort of mohawk, but it’s more of a crew-cut mohawk, if that makes sense.
Boxing them until the west coast airs is appreciated.
I liked Adam Carolla’s pre-dance chatter and I always love Kenny Mayne on results shows. Plus, audiences in LA must be jaded - even though it isn’t the best musical in the world, I was wowed when I saw the Lion King in person in a touring show…I was at least turning my head to watch them walk past me. The animal/dancers are amazing. Last night’s audience didn’t blink.
I suspect that’s the least fast forwarding of a results show I’ll do all season.
Dang, Kenny Mayne was on? I love Kenny Mayne. If I’d’ve known he was going to be on, I’d’ve watched DWTS and done SYTYCD on the commercials.
Mayne was on in 2006, the Dancing show’s second season.
